Can it be done without a casket if a family wants to avoid the expense of one?

So half the ashes aren't even my grandpa, just random fucking wood 😭 fuck that, this seems like a horrible cash grab to take advantage of grief.

I got a direct cremation package for myself for $700. Some places can charge $1,000 - $5,000 which is absurd! Shop around ... 🎉

I never imagined loved ones were present during the cremation process. It must feel so jarring. Being there until the body’s true last moments, that’s true strength and loyalty. My respects

So you’re telling me with modern day cremation technology that the burning took 70-150 minutes and it was burned down to bone fragments and not ash, so is there a grinder for the bones that makes the ash? Hm

During the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, cremation of bodies was illegal and not permitted. Burials were only in the ground. One of the first laws of the newly formed Czechoslovak republic was the one allowing cremation of bodies (in 1919)

I think you could use a little bit of anxiety right now, don't you think. Just imagine, you're at the hospital, it's not really a huge deal but something goes wrong. You flatline, they sign the paperwork. But you're still here. Aware. You spend hours, days even of awareness in a refrigerator. You're in the morgue of the hospital. Later you're loaded in a box of sorts and it seems you're being taken somewhere. Your consciousness returns and fades episodically, you don't really have a sense of time anymore. Then all of the sudden it gets hot. So, so hot! There is pain, the pain of being burnt. It is an universe of agony, until the cremation has burnt away your last nerves. And while your brain is being cooked concurrently.

My mom was cremated yesterday. I kind of wish I’d been there. Learning about the process helps my brain accept that it’s not her anymore, it’s just her body. She’s at home with the Lord 😊❤

Seems like a cardboard box would be a better value than a wood casket, particularly a lacquered casket. Do you have to pay extra for a lacquered casket?

Part of my family’s tradition is to partake in the loading of the casket into the cremation oven. Being the oldest son J had to load my kid 17 year old brother in 1996 after he was killed in a car accident and my mom three years ago into the oven and press the furnace button. I hated it and begged my dad to have the funeral directors do it. He said it was my duty. In a way it feels like I killed them 😢

Brought my husbands cremated remains home in a lovely wooden box with a brass plaque of him on his vintage tractor. He rests on top of a tall boy wardrobe with his photo and photos of our sons and grandchildren. He is by me and not in some wet, dirty hole it’s the ground.
