Would be nice to find out where to purchase that collection. I bought two small guide lines from Etsy for $12. OK. But they wanted to chare oer $20 for postage. Came to over $32 with tax for two plastic guides. Cancelled order.

This is all new to me. My question is… When you are sending a note/card to someone and you don’t want grid lines, how do you stay on track, while writing? I can’t even write my own name straight just using cursive and a pen. Lol
@whoopsiedaisyjane8 ай бұрын
I always line my notes, cards, and envelopes... depending on the medium that I am using, it will be either with a pencil (very lightly) or with a laser (I use Black & Decker Laser level).

Hello, the instructions of the pen say that you have to direct the pen toward you to avoid the scratchy feeling. So you should have to start the letter from the botton at the right and not from top at the left, if that makes sens. I am a lefty!

I find when using this grip as a leftie it's better to start at the bottom of the letter and drag the pen upwards, pushing the nib like this is going to catch on the paper and create flow issues.

I do the same. I form all the letters backwards, so I'm pulling the strokes, not pushing. It's limited, Paper type matters too

Thank you so much for trying to work like a lefty does. I’m so frustrated and was desperately on the search for a good instruction how to place my hand with a wider nib. And you are not even a lefty but still managed to find a way to help and make an amazing video. ❤️ thank you so much for your hard work 🌹I will totally try it out and hopefully the frustration will lessen a little ☺️

You're very welcome!! They now have modified Pilot Parallel Pens for left handed calligraphers so you might find them easier to work with. I don't have any so I can't compare. But if you do get them, please let me know what you think of them. And thank you so much for your kind words! 💕

@@whoopsiedaisyjane oh really, they got parallel pens for leftys now? 🤩 I got the orange and red one already, but I think those are still the ones for right handed artists. 🤔 I have to look for it, maybe that would change some things up again. ☺️ I tried your technique today by the way. My hand is cramping a little but I’m tense all the time, so that is not the fault of anything or anyone but myself 😄. The point is, this way it works much much better than everything I’ve tried so far. So thank you.❤️ You helped a lot already, I just have to get used to it now. I will keep you updated on the parallel pens and the progress with this technique. 🥰

Thank you, I’ve just decided to learn calligraphy, to write my poems. But haven’t got anything near the equipment I need, just a basic fountain pen and a ruler. This has helped me so much. Thank you. Got different pens coming to actually do it all, but for now practising until they come.

There are SO many different ways to line a paper and this is just one option. A Black & Decker level light is another. Using a straight edge like a ruler is another. For me, it depends on the project that I am working on and the type of paper. Some papers do not erase well. The calligraphy and lettering community is a very supportive and inspiring one. I'm on Instagram @GinkgoArts and you're welcome to ask questions by direct message. Scroll through hashtags on IG for more ideas and tips. Lots of calligraphers are happy to help out. :) I have a Copperplate with Jane course coming out soon and of course, there loads of lovely classes available everywhere too. Best of wishes on your journey!

Hi Jane, I am interested to try this. However, I don't have a parallel pen, but I do have the William Mitchell Round Hand Oblique left nib. My problem would be paper position as I am an under writer and have problems with smudging. I am thinking of training to write towards my body, top to down by pulling my paper horizontally, takes getting used to picturing words vertical instead of horizontal. Will let you know how it goes....

Beautiful tutorial Jane!💖 I noticed you used 4 different paint brushes: a blue handle one to mix the color, a burgundy handle with a shorty squared-off end to add the center of the flower to the teapot, a large round (which I believe you referred to as a round 10 on your IG page). And lastly, an extra fine brush to bring in more green from the center of your flower. As a student new to watercolor who is interested in investing in her “forever” watercolor brushes, might you have a “go-to” brand that you prefer? Was your blue-handle “mixing brush” lesser quality than your painting brushes? I’m sorry!🙈 So many questions!

Great video! Thank you Jane!💕 I especially appreciate the part where you mention inhalation & exhalation. 💫 It’s so easy to find oneself tensed-up during practice, especially when learning new techniques.

Thanks! This really helps. Can you use this to draw your slant lines? Those are the ones that always take so much time. I use 55 degrees for Copperplate.
@whoopsiedaisyjane6 жыл бұрын
Hi Gale! You can use the ruler to draw in the slant lines once you determine the 55 degrees. Unfortunately, that rule does not have the capability of measuring that slant. I use a calligraphy ruler that has the 55 degrees for Copperplate / Engrosser's, 45 for Madarasz, 52 for Spencerian, and 5 for Italic. :)
