I love this cover and this abstract laser show is also cool ! Ps. Some small unnecessary sound distortions I can not name like a needle of a record player jumping over the vinyl (or something with connectivity) - i think it is not on my side but of course can be wrong :). Otherwise amazing video :)

Thanks Ron!!! Yes, it’s three projectors (two 30k, and one 60k). Two are on radiators and one is lsx native content. The radiators are midi controlled from lsx.

As usual, you know your stuff Ron. Insightful. I did not realize LSX was able to send out MIDI. I was only aware of it taking MIDI and OSC as inputs.

@@MrLaserdaze yes, lsx can send *and* receive midi and osc.
@MrLaserdazeАй бұрын
@@swamidog I was wondering after I posted my comment if LSX was just facilitating a MIDI pass-through, but I'm taking your reply to mean that LSX can generate the MIDI and OSC protocols as part of it's feature set. Pretty cool. I tried to get an LSX set up a good ten years ago, and was unable to succeed. My landscape started changing fast, and I fell out of trying to stay informed with their developments. Oh, well, at least I get to enjoy seeing what you do and share with LSX stuff. Thanks!

Good one. Reminiscent of some classic laser shows I used to see in planetariums. I'll say it again, Chris. Thanks for carrying the torch of abstract laser art. Everything out there seems to have digressed to just "beam shows", so I am grateful you still keep this abstract art form alive. I hope it can be transitioned and continue to evolve with the next and future generations.

exactly! the kaleidoscope base animation is a copy of the eye video so it moves in sync with the eye, and then there's a doppler / ripple generator for some additional texture.

It's nice seeing you add lumia to your projections. I need to go back and review the tech video you did on the effects wheel your using. I think you said you were sending DMX words to control the motor's speed. I'm wondering how linear the range is on the speed control, and how much of a dynamic range it has. I know that a lot of times I would like the effect of slow moving lumia, but with the old analog way with linear pots to control voltages to the motors, trying to get them to move in slow nebulous ways could cause jerking movements, but at least there was a fair amount of "slow" range with the control through the pot. Never enough to please me, but enough to get some good effects. One of my frustrations with typical MIDI controllers intended for musicians is you get limited to the 8 bit mode when trying to send values to a DAC. One of the things I was happy about with the MIDIANNA that Laserium made is that it allowed you to tap into the long word mode of the MIDI protocol. When doing so you get a very large dynamic range, which could be fed into a DAC that could handle taking in a long word input.

I'm also always impressed with how precisely your projectors are tuned, aligned, and well color balanced. It shows in the sharpness of your imagery. Nearly indistinguishable from video graphics. Cool. I like the nerdy stuff. It's basically looks a more complicated digital way to advance an effects wheel like Laserium had on their different projectors. On the old Laserium projectors, from the 70's all the way into the 90's, "Hall Effect" switches were used. When you pushed the button on your console to advance the wheel, the switch would open to allow the wheel to be advanced with a motor and a belt around the outer diameter of the effects wheel. Then the switch closed again when the arm of the switch went into the notch at the next position in the physical wheel. Hard to explain the electro-mechanical operation in words without showing visuals, so my apology if it just looks like I wrote a bunch of gibberish.
@swamidog2 ай бұрын
the nice thing about using steppers is the more precise speed / direction control. you don't have to worry about overcoming static friction at very low speeds, and if your controller is smart, you can calculate shortest path (forward or backward rotation) to a effect and reduce time spent scrolling through positions.
@MrLaserdaze2 ай бұрын
@@swamidog you make some very good points there. Yeah, many of times I've had to climb up and stop a wheel when a switch arm was not falling into a notch and stopping the motor. And YES, there was only one direction of rotation on the wheel, so if the effect you wanted was the previous position, you had to go all the way around the wheel to get back to it.

Obviously not the same, but a similar look and feel of some of the choreography that were present in those shows of the 80's and 90's. This is a big compliment, BTW. I've often fantasized about using four Radiators to try and simulate some of the cool things we did from the 6B console. It's also great not seeing any retrace in the spiral rate! A++ for that.
