Cars can no longer drive under this bridge... I am showing my age but I can remember when cars were allowed to drive over this bridge at 05:16 in this video. If I recall correctly cars were not allowed to drive over it from 2008.

I always thought the scene where Jack answers the door naked was filmed in Denmark St. which is the next one over from Coberg St. My old primary school (St. Joseph’s) is on the opposite side of Coberg St. to the terraced houses. Not sure if it had even been built at the time of filming. It was probably just derelict land at the time.

Many young uns today won't realise when Michael Caine crosses the road from the Central Station he enters 'The Long Bar',Which at the time was the longest bar in the World ( as in Guiness Book of Records). You could enter on Neville Street and come out on Westgate Road.

Fantastic film, at the start when Jack is on the train from London the sniper who got him is in the same train cab opposite carter, he’s got his black ring on & has obviously been sent up to kill Jack if he gets in the way of business. Excellent film.

An excellent film the acting and characterisation were pure dead brilliant i wore out my VHS tape but it appeared on BBC2 late one night and i hurriedly made a DVD copy which i still have today and i have also Ted Lewis's novel which is just superior to the film especially when Peter the Dutchman met his er strange death!

Interesting but not fully comprehensive. Dave Mitcheson is wrong in saying that the conveyor was dumping coal into the North sea and that the beach was black with coal, a romantic notion but totally ludicrous. The conveyor was designed to dump the slag and spoil into the sea that was dug out of the hundred miles of mining tunnels of the Durham coal fields. That's why the conclusion of the film was so poignant, Carter dumps the slag who murdered his brother into the North sea with all the other slag. Slag does contain some coal which many poor people would root for on slag heaps as was vividly described in Orwell's book 'The Road to Wigan Pier'. But the proportion of Coal in slag is very minimal, It's ludicrous to suggest otherwise. It's like going to a supermarket, spending a couple of hundred on groceries and then dumping the lot in the river on your way home, ludicrous.

Brilliant little video many thanks for making/sharing it I’m really glad to have stumbled upon it. It was really interesting to see some of the uniquely wonderful locations used in the film. I’m a long time fan of Get Carter it’s one of my very favourite films, and I believe it to be certainly the greatest British film ever made. There are so many great performances, and I just love the authenticity of it and how grim it all feels. Roy Budd’s superb soundtrack is the icing on the cake for me. Carter’s killer being in the same train carriage as he makes his way up north is just one of many delicious little details. I think The decision to kill Carter off at the end of the film is a very interesting one. Perhaps the film would be much less impactful had he survived - in fact I strongly believe that would have been the case. Still an interesting decision tho because the smart move would have been to follow the source material (Jack’s Return Home) in which he survives, of course. They could then have made the Jack Carter Trilogy - Jack Carter’s Law, and Jack Carter and the Mafia Pigeon - now that would really have been something!
