Wow, so losing a months worth of brood? Seems cutting off your nose to spite your face, weakening your hive in order to limit varroa which weakens your hive?

The video does not mention when this should be done. I would assume that you would not stop the queen from laying during the spring flow. You also would not want to wait too late in the year as the queen needs to build a supply of winter bees. I am guessing July or August?

How are the trap frames managed...are they destroyed? And the timing of this must be important as the colony loses a big section of its brood production.

@Westernwilson It is recommended that combs that have been placed in the isolator not to be reused, so the combs should be melted or destroyed. These combs are removed for the health of the whole honey bee colony. Recommended timing for application of the method is 2 to 4 weeks before the end of foraging, or immediately after honey harvest. @@Westernwilson The methods described in the manual "Alternative methods for Varroa control in honey bee colonies" (Queen caging, Brood removal and Trapping comb demonstrated in this video), are based on biotechnical concept that after the method application, honey bee colonies managed to compensate and get ready for winter.
