Hal Block's "kiss" was so innocent and was meant to be humorous, which it was. Bennet Cerf was a elite, snobbish jerk as was Daly to a lesser degree. Block's firing was stupid and ridiculous and demonstrates the puritanical paranoia that consumed the nation in the early 1950's and, increasingly does now.

@@stephaniezimbalist3757 With respect, I think it is fair to say all the men on the show showed chauvinistic and somewhat inappropriate behavior toward Miss America and towards many other women who appeared on the program. It was sadly, pretty par for the course in the early 1950's. But Cerf and Daly just did it in a more subtle, WASP manner and I think Block was made the scapegoat because of the anti-semitism and McCarthyite paranoia that dominated those years.
