Думаю, это лучшее на сегодня произведение для кларнета и ф-но. По глубине музыкального содержания и виртуозности фактуры ( как у кларнета, так и у ф-но) этой сонате нет равных. Удивительно, что такая сложная музыка производит огромное впечатление с первого раза. И , конечно, в том числе благодаря потрясающей интерпретации двух феноменальных музыкантов- Е. Петрова и М. Петухова. Браво!

Later, the known Belgian critic Max Vandermaesbrugge wrote in his essay From Shostakovitch to Petukhov. The music of Shostakovitch performed by Petukhov may be consider as the latter's continuation of Shostakovitch's creative work, when the senior encourages the junior to insistent development of his thoughts … How delighted the Master would have been!

Lucrezia Borgia, a Sonata-fantasy on reading Victor Hugo, op. 26 for Clarinet and Piano (2012) by a well-known contemporary composer and pianist Mikhail Petukhov (born 1954) is dedicated to the brilliant clarinet player Evgeny Petrov. The author draws heavily on the primary literary source - Hugo’s play of the same name where a fictional story from the life of Lucrezia Borgia has a poignant romantic feeling to it. In the extended sonata form with a mirror-like recapitulation, Petukhov boldly brings a classical chamber music framework up to the proportions of a large-scale one-movement symphonic poem. Here is the summary of the plot: Lucrezia Borgia is famous not only for her beauty, but also for her crimes. Her name is casting a dreadful shadow over Italy. However, nobody knows that this woman gave birth out of wedlock to a son called Gennaro, to whom she is drawn with all her motherly love. The young man himself is unaware of this. He first encounters a mysterious female stranger in a mask speaking to him at the Carnival of Venice. His friends though, the young noblemen, whose relatives suffered from the atrocious villainy of the Borgia family, are quick to recognize Donna Lucrezia. Believing that the beautiful woman is after Gennaro as a lover, they tear the mask off her face and, disregarding her pleadings, mercilessly reveal to him all about who she is. From this time on his only feeling towards Lucrezia Borgia is that of revulsion. Insulted and humiliated woman is in desperation: not only is it impossible now to let Gennaro know the secret of his birth but, being despised by him, she would not even be able to be his benefactress. Then Donna Lucrezia makes up her mind to take revenge on those by whom she was exposed. She throws a feast and arranges for them to be invited without raising any suspicions. Syracusan wine, laced with the infamous Borgia poison, is flowing freely. Triumphant Donna Lucrezia suddenly appears in the midst of everyone enjoying themselves to the full and announces to all who are present that since the young people have only minutes left to live, the monks in the next chamber are waiting to hear their last confessions. But when she notices that, by some fatal chance, Gennaro happens to be among the guests, it drives her to distraction. Lucrezia entreats him to take the antidote but is met with staunch refusal: the young man is determined to share the fate of his friends. Before that however, Gennaro is going to kill Donna Lucrezia to avenge the crimes she committed. She begs for mercy but to no avail. After Gennaro has dealt the fatal blow, she tells him about her being his mother. Sonata-fantasy by Mikhail Petukhov can without doubt be regarded as an absolute gem of the modern concert repertoire for clarinet. The musical language of the composition draws on the resources of the tonal, broad-tonal and modal techniques. Brimming with uncommonly vibrant and memorable thematic material, it vividly conveys the authentic colorfulness of the atmosphere of medieval Italy. Dramatic conflict and the rich virtuoso texture of Lucrezia from the first bars command the listener’s utmost emotional involvement. This work was performed for the first time on May 18th 2012, at the Maly Hall of the Moscow Conservatory by the author and Evgeny Petrov.

Was really happy to listen this great Sonata-Fantasy live performed by Author and Evgeny Petrov. It is so close to the "Lucrezia Borgia" story, that you can even really imagine the scenes. Masterpiece! Thanks for uploading!

Truly amazing sonata-fantasy. When I listened this music, could image all scenes of "Lucrezia Borgia". This sonata didn't lose my tension until the end.And unbelievable high quality ensemble and performance redound to this sonata-fantasy.Thank you for sharing this composition!

Bravo! wonderful composition and performance

This recording was done on January 22/23, 2015. I remember, I finished my concert and ran to the Moscow Conservatory Great Hall to help Mr. Petukhov and Mr. Petrov (to turn pages) during recording session. It was an amazing experience for me to see 2 great musician work together, They worked in every detail to make this record as perfect as possible, I felt so lucky to be a musician at the moment!!! Thanks a lot for uploading!

I think it's the greatest piece of contemporary music which I'd heard before. It' so touched when l listen to this fantastic performance and read the background of composition. Just feeling like traveling in the Hugo's story with this marvelous music. Thanks a lot for uploading!

Он впервые видит таинственную незнакомку в маске, заговорившую с ним на венецианском карнавале. Однако его друзья, молодые вельможи, родственники которых в своё время пострадали от жестоких злодеяний семейства Борджиа, узнают донну Лукрецию. Уверенные в том, что она добивается любви Дженнаро, они срывают с неё маску и, невзирая на её мольбы, яростно обличают её перед юношей. Отныне Лукреция Борджиа будет внушать ему лишь отвращение. Оскорбленная и униженная женщина в отчаянии: мало того, что она не может открыть Дженнаро тайну его рождения, - теперь, отвергнутая им, она не сможет даже покровительствовать ему. И донна Лукреция решает отомстить своим обличителям. Она устраивает пир, куда они, ничего не подозревая, оказываются приглашены.
