This is a wiring issue mine was in the connector 3 burnt wires in the wire going to the trans.
@themightydonallan3 ай бұрын
We have pulled all the connectors apart and cleaned them, they didn't look bad at all just a little green dust build up.. we are still chasing it today.. checked vacuum lines, found 1 broken, fixed it, no change.. tho today I felt overdrive take over at 80 km per hr.. foot on the gas with a low idle.. then minutes later it's back to no overdrive, high rpms at 80km per hr.. I am going to add some Lucas trans stop slip in the morning and drive to my Grandmother's celebration of life.. some chance I may see a change for the better..

It took an automotive electrician5 days to find mine. I have the exact same bus as yours and discovered this issue is common. You might also check all the wires around the engine as I have read of others having the issue and discovering an issue with wiring on the engine. My bus had a new transmission so it was ruled out. You have the exact same issue I and others described.

The intermittent running well followed by the overdrive issue making it feel like the transmission is slipping. The first thing I did was have a transmission specialist look at it and he confirmed there was no issue with the trans. After the electrician fixed the wiring I've had no more issues with that.

@@themightydonallan Keep another fuel pump with you as the pump in the tank has a tendency to go out/have issues which causes vapor locking. Which is another common issue with this bus.

@reggieh1372 right you are!! I literally spend 5 weeks battling fuel pump and sending unit in the spring of 2023 driving across Canada and back.. changed both out when we got to medicine hat alberta.. fingers crossed that I am not gonna have to deal with that nightmare again for a while.

10-12 mpg, I have the overdrive option but geared real low.. 100kmh - 65mph is my top speed. I put a new motor in it 6 years ago.

Just curious what is the miles per gallon on that unit ? I have a 1988 ford class C With a 460 cdi with a c6 transmission non overdrive I get 6 to 7 mpg

@MacGyver2154 I have calculated 10 -12 mpg in the past. You really gotta be light footed hanging out jist under the speed limit on the hwy.. as soon as you get a little aggressive, your fuel mileage goes out the window.. I am currently battling with the transmission as I have lost my overdrive gear.. drove from BC to Ontario in 3rd gear over 2 days. I didn't calculate my mpg's this time, but it cost an extra $300 in fuel!!

I had a 78 XS650 Special when stationed at NAS North Island. Rode it to Forest Grove, Oregon for leave. Then back. Good bike it was.

This is my first street bike and i have had it for about 2 years now! I love it for around the city but want something bigger to keep up with all my buddies that do highway rides.. looking at a Yam vstar 950 for next spring! Thanks for the comment, i just figured out how to turn them on!

I had the 76 version with Spokes and double leading shoe up front. It shared the same seat and tank with the RD series. Changed front fork with a RD 350 fork. Stock cant use progressive springs. My buddy did a little tuning on the motor. I would do the ton all day. Clubman bars,cut down the seat and made sum rear sets. Very fun bike! Wish I still had it.

Thanks for the comment! I just figured out how to turn them on.. This build (xs400) is going slow, waiting for a welder to repair the twisted frame (papered) that came with the box of parts.. hopefully soon, so i can assemble over this winter!

Seriously awesome! I avoided doing this to my bike for fear of how difficult it would be. Looks like its not hard at all, thanks for a great video

Thanks for the comment! I just found out how to find them and turn them on!! Yes, this was my first time setting valve clearance and found it to be fairly straight forward.. just waiting for a welder buddy to get my bent frame straigtened out so i can assemble over the winter. Have you tried setting your valves yet?
