Where I lived in mid-Michigan and here again in southeast Michigan, most of the squirrels are black and have been for many years. There are a few gray colored gray squirrel. There aren't very many fox squirrels, they seem to have been overtaken by the gray squirrels.

I lived in North Granby, CT And the first time we saw a black squirrel we thought it was a monkey. The towns people said someone had a pet squirrel that was black. He got loose and black overtook the normal gray in that area. Not sure if it's true
