I think I'm in the same situation now. I have a female (9cm) and bought a male (7cm) to breed, but the moment I put him in the tank she constantly hassled him, chasing him. She is nearly double his size, so I'm thinking she is much more mature than he is, he's got bristles but he still a juvenile. Lesson learnt is that in the animal kingdom size matters 😆 the male needs to be bigger than the female in order to dominate her. I should mention that She's also been alone for like 3/4 years, maybe more because I inherited her in a tank a bought. I think she might not be used to seeing another like her, especially a male, and doesn't quite know how to react...

My uncle had a good sized koi/goldfish pond that was roughly 24'X10', about 18" deep on the shallow end with 3 shelves that led down to 3' deep on the deep end... he had 4 koi that were just over 24", and one that was right at 30"... and there were 5 fantails ranging from 9" to a foot long and 3 regular goldfish that were all about a foot long... He mixed certain dry dog food as well as dry cat foods that were about 1/4" in size with a premium koi/goldfish pellet of the same size... mixing those feeds in a large metal trash can with a lid made feed WAAY cheaper, the fish loved it, and he also fed them all sorts of fruits and vegetables... He also would throw cleaned night crawlers in there and small crawfish and de-veined shrimp as well....

Hello, I have raised goldfish before, I have a pond that is about 1000 gal. I recently purchased 60 goldfish and for the first time I also purchased 4 koi and put all of them together in the same pond. I'm pretty new at raising fish so I hope my question doesn't sound stupid. So having goldfish and koi together, can they cross breed ?

It's been about 4 weeks since I started my tank and these are the exact things I have.. wiggly tiny little worms and dead flies at the top- I'm wondering if they just die when they hatch because they drown so it's not a problem? Because I haven't seen any of them alive in my apartment and there were several floating dead at the top. Also the big dark ones look like drain flies/moths but these look more like gnats ?

Just got this system working this past weekend for my 135 gallon aquarium. Since I already use a (plexiglass) sump filter, I put the output there instead of in the aquarium so I didn't have to drill the aquarium glass (which is about 1/2" thick). I had always wondered how to do automatic water changing, but couldn't come up with a really good way to do it. Your design is very elegant and worked great for me, once I got some help for the harder parts. Thanks for posting this!
