Excellent analysis! Though I would argue that Paris is more of an INTJ. Case in point: "No man is an island but this woman is." 😂

I actually found Rory's arc from "gifted kid" to "floundering adult" refreshing and relatable. But I agree that her character development is really unsatisfying overall. So often she learns the wrong lesson (by following her mother's example) or seems to improve, only to repeat the mistake later. She could have followed a similar character arc but learned from previous mistakes (or other examples like Paris & Jess) and ended up in a place that rewarded her hard work with some level of success. I think that would have been more satisfying. Also, it seems like Jess is meant to be to Rory what Luke is to Lorelai, and that's one time when learning from her mom's mistake (overlooking the reliable guy in front of you) would actually make sense.

This is late, but you are correct. ASP realized how popular Milo was and decided to make a spinoff for Jess to explore his relationship with his dad. The first season would have been at the same time as S4 of GG. It was called Windward Circle. The studio only ordered half a season and ASP refused to make it unless they guaranteed more episodes, so the pilot is the only episode ever shot. And yes, Jess was failed by pretty much everyone at some point. Even his biggest supporters (Luke and Rory) also let him down at times.

I think jess fits a pda autistic profile and his mum and dad could be nd as well, partially explaining why they aren't bad people but they were unsupported and overwhelmed as parents. Also pda autists are autodidacta and school is worst environment from them. He thrived when he could learn and grow in other environments where he could follow his passions. Lorelai was really condescending to him with her little speech when he first came, presuming she could step into his life, immediately have his trust and guide and advice him. It was disrespectful to him to do that and he felt that and then mirrored that back at her. I think he was very insightful and could smell out smug, self righteousness and mirrored the disrespect right back. When people genuinely try with him he does try back, e.g with Emily. A big reason people don't like him is that he can act like a mirror. Some individuals and institutions don't like what they see in the mirror.

i watch 'Dawson's creek' for the first time and i now i think that GG creators were trying to make Rory into someone like Joey Potter - the one who's 'hard to forget' because she's smart, beautiful, kind-hearted and driven to success. They're even look alike - tall brunettes who's sometimes compared to Audrey Hepburn. But the difference is that Joey wasn't annoying (well, she was, but not that often lol ). She was loyal, she cared about her friends and even her exes, she had high moral principles. She came from a broken house and she really worked hard for everything good in her life. Rory was self-absorbed, she rarely cared about her friends (even about Lane, and she was very clear that she doesn't like Paris even when they became friends), she got her bright future on a silver platter because of her rich grandparents, she gave up on her dreams after the first inconvenience (Mitcham criticizing her). And she instantly alienated her mother, who did everything in her power to make her life better, the second Lorelai (literally the first time in her entire life) didn't want to cater for her tantrums. And let's not even talk about her moral ground, it was basically non-existent

Good points. I wish the Richard thing happend other than Jess screaming what’s going on. What bothered me was not that she kissed Jess while with Dean she acted like a jealous psycho when she came back and I don’t blame Dean for breaking up with her that night she was horrible. Yes even though I don’t like Rj she could have broken with Dean and dated Jess and let the relationship run its course

Sookie is type 3, w2 in my opinon, because - Basic Fear: Of being worthless,Basic Desire: To feel valuable and worthwhile. Caring a lot for others as a type 2. Healthy threes, like Sookie, are self-assured, energetic, and competent with high self-esteem: they believe in themselves and their own value. Adaptable, desirable, charming, and gracious. they are ambitious to improve themselves, to be “the best they can be”. Highly concerned with their performance, doing their job well, constantly driving self to achieve goals as if self-worth depends on it. Terrified of failure. this all comes out in her job. Paris is also type 3, but a very unhealthy one. fearing failure and humiliation, deceptive, vindictive, relentless, obsessed with success and image.

Lorelai is a type 8 (wing 7): Decisive, authoritative, and commanding: the natural leader others look up to. Take initiative, make things happen: champion people, provider, protective, and honorable, carrying others with their strength. Self-assertive, self-confident, and strong: have learned to stand up for what they need and want. A resourceful, “can do” attitude and passionate inner drive.. Become self-restrained and magnanimous, merciful and forbearing, mastering self through their self-surrender to a higher authority. Courageous, willing to put self in serious jeopardy to achieve their vision and have a lasting influence. ....Begin to dominate their environment, including others: want to feel that others are behind them, supporting their efforts. Swaggering, boastful, forceful, and expansive: the “boss” whose word is law. Proud, egocentric, want to impose their will and vision on everything, not seeing others as equals or treating them with respect........Self-sufficiency, financial independence, and having enough resources are important concerns: become enterprising, pragmatic, “rugged individualists,” wheeler-dealers. Risk-taking, hardworking, denying own emotional needs.

Paris Geller is, i think, Enneagram type 3: pragmatic and efficient, but also premeditated, losing touch with their own feelings beneath a smooth facade. Problems with intimacy, credibility, and “phoniness” emerge. Want to impress others with their superiority: constantly promoting themselves, making themselves sound better than they really are. Narcissistic, with grandiose, inflated notions about themselves and their talents. Exhibitionistic and seductive, as if saying “Look at me!” Arrogance and contempt for others is a defense against feeling jealous of others and their success. Fearing failure and humiliation, they can be exploitative and opportunistic, covetous of the success of others, and willing to do “whatever it takes” to preserve the illusion of their superiority... Devious and deceptive so that their mistakes and wrongdoings will not be exposed. Untrustworthy, maliciously betraying or sabotaging people to triumph over them. Delusionally jealous of others. vindictive, attempting to ruin others’ happiness. Relentless, obsessive about destroying whatever reminds them of their own shortcomings and failures.

i think Emily Gilmore is Enneagram type 1:Can be highly dogmatic, self-righteous, intolerant, and inflexible. Begin dealing in absolutes: they alone know “The Truth.” Everyone else is wrong: very severe in judgments, while rationalizing own actions. Become obsessive about imperfection and the wrongdoing of others (every maid, or Emily's own daughter, etc.) although they may fall into contradictory actions, hypocritically doing the opposite of what they preach. Become condemnatory toward others, punitive and cruel to rid themselves of wrongdoers. Ones are people of practical action- they want to be useful in the best sense of the word. On some level of consciousness, they feel that they “have a mission” to fulfill in life, if only to try their best to reduce the disorder they see in their environment. Ones have a strong sense of purpose, they also typically feel that they have to justify their actions to themselves, and often to others as well. This orientation causes Ones to spend a lot of time thinking about the consequences of their actions, as well as about how to keep from acting contrary to their convictions. Because of this, Ones often persuade themselves that they are “head” types, rationalists who proceed only on logic and objective truth. But, the real picture is somewhat different: Ones are actually activists who are searching for an acceptable rationale for what they feel they must do.

In the end, Mitchum was right, unfortunately. I used to think that he actually tested her, because the things he said - "you don't have it what it takes to be a journalist" could be proven wrong by Rory's persistence, her not abandoning everything on the spot. Remember, Cars 3 - a female car from the older generation, Louise Nash, was directly and bluntly told off, wasn't even given a race number - but she believed that was what she wanted, so she stole the number and did it despite everything.

Why do we have to like Rory? Why does she have to be the hero? What character trait does she have that makes us want to root for her? If that's what you want from the show, you might as well stop watching at the end of season 3. Maybe we should trust the direction ASP took, that this girl has too many things piling up against her (both internal and external) and that her train wreck of a life is more entertaining than it would have been if she learned because, uh, she read a lot?

The creator of the show wanted Chad Michael Murray to play Nathan because he had seen his acting roles and how he always played the bad guy, but the producers had many disagreements over him playing either Lucas or Nathan and so they decided to bring him in for his opinion and he said that he was interested in playing Lucas because that character's life had a lot of similarities to his own life. James Lafferty had more experience as a basketball player than as an actor and he auditioned for Lucas but didn't get it because he wasn't what directors saw as Lucas and after some auditions for Nathan, he was given notes on his acting and the directors did not see him as suitable for the role, but they called him back to five or six auditions and that they were only going to bring him to the network because they just didn't have the guy and on his first day of acting for the network he came in and just blew everybody away like surprisingly away. The producers had met Hilarie Burton in casting for the movie Radio, after she was just coming off her MTV work and hadn't really done much acting since she was principally a television host, but she had a remarkable quality.

Bethany Joy Lenz said that when she watched this episode that she thought that they were setting up a Dawson/Joey relationship with Lucas/Haley because that's what they were originally going for, but Chad and Joy had no chemistry, so it just didn't work and their energy was so sibling-ness, that it didn't happen.

The creator initially wrote this as a movie called Ravens and he sent the producers a short 25-page script and after reading it they approached the creator about pursuing the project because they were interested in the premise but believed that it should be a TV series instead so that way, they can spend more time with these characters in this world, but the creator wasn't sold on the idea but the producers refused to give up and so they pursued him for 4 years about the project and told him that it would be better as a Television series, then he finally gave in and agreed to develop it as a show instead but he said that the network wasn't in love with the name because they felt like it was too sport-centric, since Ravens is the name of the basketball team and so he renamed it One Tree Hill which is a U2 song from the band's 1987 album, The Joshua Tree which he had been listening to while writing the original script and so he suggested the title with the idea of naming the fictional town in the series Tree Hill and the network loved it, then after getting the cast they realized that there wasn't enough humor and then after The O.C. debuted they had to turn up the sexy because they were competing with them since The O.C. had started out with high rating's while One Tree Hill had started out with low rating's but then it picked up after their second week and by the eighth week it had gotten enough attention from the network that they decided that they were going to keep it and not pull the plug but people were always afraid that they would end up getting cancelled or lost in the clutter of all the new shows and high concepts.
