Save your money folks. While this may be a solution for weak draft or windy days, these items tend to drop dead on you with no notice or apparent cause for failure. If you feel that your flue pipe is too cold for starting up your fire, take your wife's hair dryer and you will be surprised at how quickly it warms your flue pipe. If excessive winds are causing your flue to back puff, you can install a relatively cheap in-line fan down the line somewhat. If you give some thought to the problem, there are many tips and tricks to solve the issue,

Mr Energy, nice work. How did you figure out what size to make 2nd burn pipe & hole size? I have a old Timberline that is large 8" flue, it's 28" wide 24" deep 24" tall and has a metal smoke shelf 4-1/2" from top of stove. High tech in 1979 lol. I gasketed the door and machined doors where air input spinners go. I can shut fire down now by closing them now. Plan is to add insulation to top of smoke shelf and add 2nd burn pipe(s) I have 5/8" sst tube .065 wall and 1-1/2 square tube to work with. Looking for clues on hole size in sst tubes and how many tubes. My modern cat stove upstairs has 3 smaller tubes with smaller holes than what appears on your set up. Thanks in advance for your input
@mrEnergy51124 күн бұрын
The stainless steel tube was left over from some old stove parts I had. The standard size has been engineered for the newer stoves so you can find a replacement for the newer stoves and use that. It is just about the air flow. Having the extra combustion air where the smoke is helps it burn cleaner. I am not sure of the math or the formula.

how can i tell if this will benefit me? I have an old Sierra 150, would i get advantage out of doing this and where would i place it? Also, maybe i'd benefit from a second row of bricks. Only thing is, i don't have a welder, i'd have to try and JB weld it in or something. I could send dimensions or something if you have some advice.. my stove has Air entry holes to throttle incoming air so i'm not sure if a secondary burner would help or not.

So this might be a dumb question but I'm thinking about building a rocket stove hot tub, I was planning on using the vertical pipe to wrap the copper tubing around for the water, would this type of damper allow me to control the heat in the vertical stack itself? I want to be able to control the water temp so I don't burn / cook myself in the tub.

You need to understand an important factor. Because this is a DIY product there are many variables to consider. Without a product testing and listening No insurance company will cover a fire. Use at your own RISK! However this can be safe if you take extra precautions such as more clearance to combustible material and also extra layers of sheet metal with air space between (triple wall pipe) please BE SAFE!!
