This bike is good enough to keep for life. Nothing else like it at this price point. I'd only sell it as a trade in for the newer one!

Curious about how this effected your speedo, and fuel consumption? Did you ever consider modifying the sproket as well or is it necessary? Ps. Very keen on the 24/25 KLX230SM to be released in Australia. Your vids helped me decide to go ahead and buy.

I haven't noticed the speedo being to far off to make a difference for me. And mpg hasn't been affected that I know, I get about 69mpg (Im normally riding full throttle all the time). I have thought about going to the sprocket from the 230 dual sport that is that is a 45 rear compared to the 43 on the SM in the rear. but honestly I been happy with how the bike sits now.

Good bike. Keep it. The one bike I wish I still had in a long motorcycling life is the Suzuki DR250SH that I had in Tokyo in 91/92. Even lighter than this 230 as it didn't have a battery. It put out 29 bhp and the crank so went well. I always wanted 17'' wheels for it, but back then you couldn't get an SM standard. Now you can, and I am going to get a KLX230SM. Big enough for a second/third bike. I think I'll probably ride it the most. Nick

I am shaping up to getting a KLX230SM in Thailand. They are made over here. It will be one of three bikes, the other two get regular use as does a 155cc Yamaha scooter which will make way for the 230SM. I have enjoyed all your 230SM videos.

I'd change the oil and filter every 5,000 km / 3,100 miles. I'm in Thailand, and it's hot, so I'd use a 15w50 oil. No salt on the road over here. Quarts and ounces mean nothing to me. I've looked up the conversions to litres. Nick

I probably said the other day, but I have a Yamaha SCR950, KTM 390 Duke and Yamaha Aerox 155 [twist & go scooter], the last one in that list would make way for the 230SM should I decide to buy one. It's certainly powerful enough for my backroad needs. Your videos are just what I needed to see. Nick

The issues are nothing to do with reliability. That's good. The tank would be an okay size for me. The bike looks plenty quick enough. I am considering buying one of these in northern Thailand for running around on. Maximum 50 miles on backroads in one hit and that would be rare. More usually, 30 miles. The 300 has a rev counter. Not really needed but desirable. I already own a Yamaha SCR950 and a KTM 390 Duke Mk2. The 230SM will be replacing my Yamaha Aerox 155 twist and go scooter. Excellent video. Nick

@pitbikemike
@pitbikemike 17 күн бұрын
@@jfm1811 No I didn’t really feel a difference just sound. Which in some ways is nice cause when I out a pipe on crf250l I noticed it had a flat spot in rev range till I put fuel tuner. So this was slip on and forget in my case. I did the o2 delete just cause it was cheap and was curious if it made any difference…

Did you have any clearance problems on the 140 rear?
@pitbikemike
@pitbikemike Ай бұрын
@@rikkiroxx1430 I did not have any clearance issues in regards to the swing arm. But I did have to tighten the rear suspension preload which fixed a issue because when I had a passenger on the back, it was squatting enough that on certain bumps the tire would just touch the muffler. Honestly I have really enjoyed having a 140 rear on this bike and don’t plan to ever go back to the smaller size

So I have my MSF course completed and I’m looking at a first bike. I’ve been eyeing a Grom, CRF300L as well as this and the KLX300. The grom is fear will be a bit too slow and the CRF fits the mileage and speed I’d like. The 300 KLX has the better suspension but more cost. This on the other hand, I’ve found a couple brand new ones on sale for 3300 bucks… and I think that’s a good deal. Any thoughts?
@pitbikemike
@pitbikemike Ай бұрын
Crf300l if you can get a good deal. The aftermarket on that bike is massive compared to the Kawasaki’s. Only reason I originally went with klx230sm was cause I wanted a supermoto and I liked the color. But I have alot of love for the crf300l (I owned the crf250l which was great also)

I own that exact bike with the hard cases (red in color and all). Only clarification I would mention is the traction control. It ranges from zero (traction control off) to five. I keep it at 3, which is a good mix. But the power.. wow. I got on the interstate and wound out the gears out to 8,000rpm and I was doing 92mph in 3rd gear in what felt like 4 seconds. The only con I have is the mirrors. Yes, there is a little buzz and I can live with that but adjusting them while riding is tough. It can be done but you are reaching so far forward you are in a compromised position while doing it. For me it's the perfect rider triangle. And the cruise control is a game changer. Zero regrets.

Way different than sport bikes. Before a demo it might help to familiarize yourself with the bike a bit more however your reaction to the bike cold gives people a good idea of of first impressions. Once you go Harley you won’t go back. I had 3 Jap bikes and I’m on my 3rd Harley. I have had 2 Roadglides and they are great Tourers. Heritage Classic is a great bike and what I’m riding now. The Harley’s are well balanced. Life is short. Buy the Harley
