I bought a Magical Touch and Giant Amadeus. How many ounces of Hippeastrum Amaryllis Bloom fertilizer mixture (from Green24 Germany) should I pour weekly around the bulbs in their 7" pots?

Beautiful trees, I have one in a pot, I'm in zone 9 and it doesn't flower, in fact it doesn't even have leaves, what can I do, thank you
@downtoearthgardeninganddesign2 күн бұрын
Hi There! Dogwood trees do have a dormancy cycle in which they lose their leaves. How long have you had the tree in the pot and what is the variety? They do grow best when they are planted in the ground.
@TheTJLH3 күн бұрын
When is the right time to move them? We have several near death, sadly. The people we bought the home from, were not gardeners, and put them in a place without supplemental watering. They are only alive because it rains most of the year, but once summer comes, it stops. I am shocked they are alive at all. I need to get them to a new location where I can take care of them.
@downtoearthgardeninganddesign3 күн бұрын
Great question! Early fall once they are cut back is the best time to move them. It’s best to do it on a rainy/cloudy day so they are under the least amount of stress!

Can I plant them after they bloom?
@downtoearthgardeninganddesign3 күн бұрын
Hello! Yes you can, but it may take a couple of years to see flowers. Many people toss the bulbs after forcing, but it is a little heartbreaking! Daffodils tend to do the best. Good luck and happy gardening! 🌷

If I didn’t bring my bulb pots inside in November, is it too late to do it now? Zone 6b/7a southeastern MA
@downtoearthgardeninganddesign10 күн бұрын
Hi there! I would bring them in now to an unheated garage or shed if you can. There’s a better chance they will make it if they aren’t left out in the elements. Keep us posted!

Thats the mistake I made. I planted bulbs in a half-barrel, but left the it outside instead of keeping it in my garage. Those bulbs didn’t make it, but the ones I planted in the ground did. The container just got too cold.

what is scaring me of planting this time of year is if my bulbs will have enough chilling hours or not.
@downtoearthgardeninganddesign24 күн бұрын
Thank you for your comment! Spring bulbs need on average 12 weeks of cold temps (40F and below). This also depends on the type of bulb. I will say that plants are resilient- and if you have bulbs on hand, it’s best to get them into the ground rather than waste them. Those spring flowers are so precious! 🌷

Hi there! Yes it is! I love it so much that I have a full video planned for the near future on it! I did discuss it a bit in our drought tolerant shrub video…because once it is established, it is very low maintenance. It is a Dwarf Colorado Blue Spruce 😊

I just got myself 2 amaryllis. Not new to outdoor gardening with flowers and food but new to amaryllis.... what is the difference in planting the amaryllis and waxing? Also, when the wax is removed does it have roots or do those develop later? I'm scared to cut the roots off lol
@downtoearthgardeninganddesignАй бұрын
Hi there! The wax envelopes the bulb- it has all it needs within the waxed surface. No water, zero care! Just indirect sunlight. When you remove the wax and plant it, it will develop roots. Enjoy- it’s such a wonderful flower!!

Lasy year I got a beautiful red Amaryllis in wax as a gift....I didnt know to take it out and make it go dormant....so this year, I only got many lovely green leafs for a nice house plant. It didnt flower, but it did give me two babies! So this year im going to make them go dormant to see if it will bloom next spring when i bring it in and repot it. I think I'll try like one of your commenters mentioned about soaking the roots in warm water before potting up again in spring ❤ Thanks for sharing your video!

I have good success with those type of salvias in containers in zone 5b. After the first frost, I cut the plants back to their base, make sure they are watered and store the containers in an insulated garage. I recommend salvia amistad (rich purple), black and blue, as well as salvia amante (hot pink). I also grew royal red, but those plants did not grow as large. They have brought in many hummingbirds, so I spread the plants around in my yard to keep the competition between the hummingbirds to a minimum. I have started planting the cold hardy salvias (the profusion series). I also have azure snow, which flowers in the spring. It is a bicolor variety. The great thing about the salvias is that the deer and bunnies stay away from them. The salvia plants require a lot of nutrients and I find that the Bonide Garden Rich Liquid Iron helps the plants to absorb the other nutrients you provide them and the plants will turn a darker shade of green and produce more blossoms. It’s the second week of November, and my blue suede shoes salvia is still loaded with blossoms. The salvias are true performers!
