Great job Scott! It always feels worse when you were the one flying but it wasn’t that bad. Your wife didn’t seem bothered by the landing so that tells me it wasn’t as bad as you thought. To continue my arm chair quarterbacking lol, I would have probably dropped 50% flaps as a soon as I realized a slam dunk was imminent(ie. when you were a few miles east of final at 4000) it would have given you a little more time to get composed. The g7s are slippery buggers and with the slower planes in the pattern they may have caused unnecessary distractions. Oh and the “living the dream” controller was AWESOME! Thanks for sharing the journey!

How do you like the G7 avionics? Was it a steep learning curve? Is it sooo much better than G6?
@flying_scott2 күн бұрын
I love it! Way less learning curve than I anticipated. Especially if you already understand Garmin logic. I think it’s a huge step up from the G6 perspective, personally.

Awesome video thanks for making it, I learned years ago there are two types of landings, a good landing, and a great landing. We all know a good landing is when you can walk away from it, a great landing is where you can use the airplane again…… yours was a great landing. Lol.

It's best practice to ask passengers not to speak (sterile cockpit), unless it's an emergency, from descent to arrival on the ramp. Give them the job of looking for traffic. No talking about sightseeing, where the Jags play, etc. FLY! Capture the PAPI's, they looked white in the video (hard to tell) and what you've already mentioned, look down the runway for a gentle flare. You put yourself in a tough situation by dropping full flaps well outside the runway environment. Aviation is a learning experience. Nice job under tough circumstances. Control them next time.
@Thegr8iam-p7t3 күн бұрын
I think it’s the squelch is turned up to much?? Not sure if it’s something you can reduce in these new radio setups? I’m old school lol Any landing you can walk away from is good 👍🏻 lol seriously though work on stabilizing approach and another tip that helps is your eyes look at one point on the runway ie numbers then fly to said spot in a stable configuration from 500 ft above. As you approach the point where said numbers leave the point of view transition to looking upwards and reduce power and flare in that order. Once the mains are firmly on the ground raise flaps. This will keep you firmly on the ground.

My most embarrassing moment flying, and severe lesson. Following about 2 1//2 hours of Commercial/Instrument training and multiple approaches & departures, all hand flown "under the hood", I pulled the hood off at minimums at Hobby. I learned all to quickly how tricky going from instruments to visual flight can be. What proceeded was, without doubt, the worst almost out of control landing I've ever made. My reaction, "My God! What was that! THAT right here at Hobby for God & everyone else to see!" The CFII explained that often skilled smooth landings after long IMC flight can be difficult. I've never experienced such again following CFII's advice & training, but ....egads! I'll never forget it

Good video, Scott. Wouldn’t beat you up for the landing. We’ve all had landings that were rougher than we intended. The only mistake I saw was an extraneous conversation with your passenger just prior to touchdown. I tell those flying with me that it’s a sterile cockpit once we’re in the traffic pattern.
@BJ05213 күн бұрын
I’m not going to “roast” you about your bad landing. Every pilot has the occasional “bad landing”, for any number of reasons, so I’m not going to “roast” you about it. After all, thats why we practice and debrief our flights. No Scott, I’m going to “roast” you about something way more important. Your video demonstrates a total disregard for a sterile cockpit at critical stages of flight and your improper use of checklists and flows. Your non-pilot KZbin fans aren’t going to get this and I’m probably going to get more of a “roasting” than you, but it needs to be said. Please stop the unnecessary chatter during critical phases of flight, use a flow and back it up with proper use of your checklists. And please, get rid of the camera. It way too much of a distraction for you. If anything, use it as a training tool, but thats it. Lastly, please get a COPA certified CFII (preferably one that has flown professionally) and show him your video and my comment and do a debrief with him. Happy New Year and safe flying. ❤

Last minute changes always throw off rhythm and pace… and generally yield a less than perfect landing. Plenty a runway just keep building the patience to hold it off until it’s ready to land. Those experiences are will make you a better pilot! The reality is, you’re gonna have plenty of time to do an even worse landing! We all are!

I am not an a CFI, so take my feedback with a pound of salt: 1) You turned final early and cut the corner, so you gave up the time to lose altitude and airspeed. Unless I am circling or doing a short approach, I always try to fly straight lines and do standard rate turns. If you wander toward the final, then you'll have a much harder time to judging your approach. 2) You had power in the whole time you were trying to get down and get slow. You gotta make up your mind. 😂You were well above Vref when you crossed the threshold, so you had excess energy to bleed off. Seems like you were trying to hit the 1000' marks, so you ballooned. 3) You loaded and activated the visual approach, but the active segment to intercept was outside of your base leg. You can see on your PFD that your FPL sequencing was suspended ("SUSP" enabled), so until you intercepted that leg, it was not going to sequence you onto the final GP. If you would have disabled SUSP, it should have skipped forward and given you guidance for a 3 degree GP, which obviously would help. 4) I am not a stickler for the "sterile cokpit" rule, but you seem very distracted on short final despite being out of the pocket.

I do most of my flying in Colorado around Denver which can be busy. We spend most of the winter in Florida and the airspace is a whole different level of busy. Normally fly out of North Palm Beach County and it desperately needs a tower, but everyone usually really does there best, but it can be insane.

@flying_scott Scott, thoughts are circulating that it is related to a design issue and interference. The static and weak Com 2 was traced to an autopilot servo. That component has been re-engineered and has been incorporated in current deliveries. It may be a Cirrus part repositioning/replacement need.
@flying_scott3 күн бұрын

@@flying_scott Love the video!!! Saw your comment on the COM static breaking through. I thought the same thing on the squelch. My first thought is that the auto squelch is being too sensitive. Made me miss the days of manual squelch control. Have you tried turning the squelch up? Back when I was training shifting between frequencies I was always changing my squelch - made me think it was atmospherics - some days were worse than others. Just a thought.

@kylezinn76524 күн бұрын
Now that I'm thinking about this, it could possibly be one of your cameras causing the issue. Electrical talk so to keep it simple, maybe unplug one and then a second one. Try a flight with no cameras in other words and plug one in as you progress.
