Sir George Martin had some interesting and very positive things to say in a documentary about the Bee Gees, "This Is Where I Came In," released in 2001. Personally, I consider them equally talented to the Beatles, but just different. For example, the roots of the Beatles' music was rock and roll, whereas the roots of the Bee Gees' music was R&B. They were definitely influenced by the Beatles (as was every other musician), and they all knew each other. John Lennon gave Maurice Gibb an acoustic guitar for his 21st birthday, which he played for the rest of his life. There are many other differences between the two groups, too many to name here, but Sir George was definitely a fan of the boys from Manchester. He's so humble... Unlike some "great ones". I don't know why but "Octopus Garden", his song, always make me feel "sand in my eyes", not just a great drummer, but a great composer too.
