You start from the bottom, working your way up. Wheels throw compound upwards; you overlap each run, using the black compound line to lubricate the wheel. When the black line disappears, time to rake the wheel and apply more compound. Wipe with mineral spirits before switching to a finer wheel/compound combo.

Thank you for the advice. That trailer blew away in a storm. I now have a 1988 Airstream Excella. The person I bought it from painted it. A bad job at that. So I will be stripping it to polish it. Do you have any videos I could watch.

You know what’s worse than tool noise? That crappy music and videoing your back. Yes: turn off the sound if you want [although we can mute it]; and place your camera on a tripod to your side….don’t stand in front of it. After you said, you should begin with Tripoli [brown compound] and the appropriate wheel; by going straight from 220 grit sandpaper to blue wheel with blue compound is not right. It’s like using 220 grit sandpaper on a rough piece of wood.

Also....will there be a fan (other than the one for compost toilet) in the toilet closet? Have you looked into the Airhead toilets? Bet your wife would prefer. Easier to use. Better shaoe to sit on.

Have you tried CitriStrip? Or maybe the aircraft aluminum stripper that some people use to remove clearcoat from shell?

I am going to put an additional aluminum skin in. Over the old one. That will help with running and hiding some wires for lights. And me a better looking skin. The old one has a lot of holes.

I’d polish it. That’s where your value goes up. To get someone to do it for you. You’d be charged around $100/$200 per foot. I am going to use the wool pads and the two step cut and polish with. Nuvite / NuShine . F7, C9. Your Airstream is definitely in better condition unlike mine. I have a 1958 Australian Airstream which they call the toaster because of her box like shape. I have only polished half as it is one heck of a job. Unfortunately I can’t show you the photos here. Once your Airstream has been polished. You will only need to give it a yearly buff. Well worth the effort .

I had just finished polishing my 1963. Then the wind blew it across the road. So I know how fun that can be. So with that knowledge I will hire it out. Thank you for your comment .
@Stevie6636 Жыл бұрын
You may of been better off using the grinder with the wool buffers and using the Nu-Shine 2step process and the machine should not exceed 1000rpm. Being that the aluminium is extremely delicate. I must say that your Airstream is definitely in much better condition then my 1958 Australian Airstream.

It will cost you alot of money to strip and polish the trailer. I would leave it as is and put a coat of wax on it like NuFinish once a year. Much leas maintenance than a polished aluminum. The trailer is in quite good shape for its age
@onebadmac Жыл бұрын
I am still walking the fence on this. Because the trailer is one big brush stroke. It looked like they were trying to get it on as thick as possible with one coat. There is one thing though. I don't think it will leak. Thank you 4RXLA.

The switch is for the A/C and Microwave power. In one position it powers the Mico in the other it powers the A/C. The breaker will trip if both are running for about a minute or so. Like I said in my other post keep everything or post it for sale on AirForums. I need a tube from the cooktop if you are going to trash it. Ours is missing one.

How do you even get the panels off? Each clip seems to break when I try the outer edge at the back.
@onebadmac3 жыл бұрын
The car was almost new when I did this. So they were still pliable. But I did bend one. So I popped over to my local dealer and bought a new bag of clips. I think it was about $10. Also harbor freight has a door panel kit for a few bucks.
@adelemooney31424 жыл бұрын
Who did your insulation? I recently purchased a permanent air filter which is easily washable with the sprayer on the water hose. Works well. Cost was a little less than $30, I think. Will pay for itself soon. I'm considering having my attic done...but my electric bill is very reasonable...last month was only $65-ish.
