@thecornedbeefcouncil9792
@thecornedbeefcouncil9792 Ай бұрын
That’s exactly what many of these trainspotters want and many seek this response from the driver by doing the up and down motion with their arm. Indeed the cameraman in this clip could’ve been doing just that. In this situation sounding the horn could be seen as a friendly gesture towards the camera rather than a warning to get back. The driver did everything correctly.

In your original position you were classed as being ‘on or near the line’. As a civilian without Safety Critical ID or PTS you have no business standing there and you need to move for your safety. Foot crossings are for accessing the other side of the line and not stopping on, it doesn’t matter if 60% (or whatever you quoted) think the driver is overreacting, they are clearly not Train Drivers and he is, therefore his opinion trumps your uneducated viewers.

Because it’s abundantly clear you’re standing where you shouldn’t be. You spotters don’t help yourselves at all.

Trains can sneak up on you and if one passed you that close it could suck you in. I think the driver is just concerned for your safety, that's all. Have you seen the near miss at Thurston??

You've been told to get back as you are clearly passed the boundary poles. If I recall, there is no gate on that side of the crossing. Furthermore, if an unschedualed train was to come in the opposite direction (to which you have your back to), and it had an unsafe/loose load, then you are at risk of being struck. You're lucky all that the driver done was wave you away rather than report a near miss or a concern for welfare. Unfortunately, people who "think they know best" are the ones that get hurt. Please don't be another statistic and use common sense when enjoying your hobby.
@stanleygrabham3954

fair enough but there isn't exactly a sign or a line saying do not pass this point when there's a train coming
@Ul.B
@Ul.B Ай бұрын
The train driver is absolutely right. Slowing down was the only right thing to do here, because who knows how stupid people react near the tracks? Short-circuit actions are common, just the day before yesterday I experienced a 70-year-old trudging along a double-track line, ahead of the approaching train, in order to reach the train that was about to arrive on the platform behind it. And the train that was supposed to arrive at that platform was still 5 minutes late, which then turned into 7, so it was completely pointless.
@TTF9052

I come from a American city and have seen many people get closer to the rails at crossings, trying to determine if they could be fast enough to get across safely, This is just to make sure that IF there was another train on the other rail you don’t do something stupid and harm yourself.

Silly to say that the Driver was “overrating”, when he was clearly thinking about your life. You were also standing too close to the line and not to mention traffic on the opposite direction could’ve cost you your life if you wasn’t paying attention… The “60%” who agreed with the Driver overreacting, would most likely get you killed by doing the same.
