I really wanted to be at that 2000 show. I grew up in STL, Botanical Gardens one of my favorite places ad John? Well who didn't love him? I would love to see that show.

Oh! I guess this is what Sam Bush is singing about in his song “Radio John.” All the people sang along. It’s not easy to get people to do that!

Your headline leads those who know no better that Hoffnung was the composer and makes no mention of Malcolm Arnold.

Sadly it was the story of Malcolm Arnold's career to be overlooked, a situation that still exists today with even his centenary two years ago proving to be a damp squib.

Sorry, I had no idea who composed it. the video was no longer on FB so I put it back on. Composers are often overlooked. Most folks don't know that Richard Hayman composed many of the Boston Pops most famous pieces. I know because was a friend of Hayman's.

KZbin is censoring science regarding marijuana use by children. Marijuana is particularly bad for kids. Kids using marijuana have exceptionally high problems with mental health, suicide, fatal accidents, school failure, and more. It interferes with the wiring of brains. In some states, minors can get "medical marijuana". Kids have a right to know what they are getting into, but KZbin is keeping them believing that pot is a wonderful drug. Per large-group independent peer-reviewed science, marijuana has medical benefits only for a tiny number of individuals, who suffer the same memory, mental health, employment, and other problems pot causes. KZbin restricted this video to those over 18, and refused my appeal. But of course kids can see all sorts of really sick, dangerous content conforming to Woke ideology not suitable for kids. I will put this video on Rumble and probably delete it from youtube. Their next step is to ban me entirely.

Thanks so much for the information and the KZbin. I knew the Beers who had the Fox Hollow Festival. They used to come to Mt. View, Arkansas to the Folk Festival. Are Tony and Irene still with us? I just read where my friend Paul Prestopino ex Chad Mitchell Trio member and touring with Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey doing a Mary Travis tribute passed away a few months ago. So glad I got to know him. Erik Darling sent me a copy of his auto bio, but unfortunately passed away before I got him to autograph it. I do have notes he sent me about certain "folkies", and songs along with a copy of his banjo instruction book. I still hear from former Weavers member Frank Hamilton who is running a folk school in Atlanta.

Yes, “A Grand, Grand Orchestra” was written by Sir Malcolm Arnold for a Hoffnung Festival as a parody of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture”, and the various vacuum cleaners in the piece were a nod to President Hoover.
@fredmckinney8933 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I eventually noticed the vacuums there. Were those put there to say that this piece sucks? Now I am just kidding, of course. Hoffnung was a genius to come up with this. It's a shame he only lived to be 34.
@mellimoon77 Жыл бұрын
The music is by Malcolm Arnold and this particular performance of the BBCSO and guests was in the Royal Albert Hall, as opposed to the RFH. If you correct/add those details your video can be found more easily.

The guitarist with the hat reminds me of Slash. Slash was recently in a Capital One spot, in which it said switching to Capital One is as easy as having Slash in your band.

I interviewed Doc for a show I had on KFUO. He ebulliently announced he would play a great old tune called "Raccoon In A Trash Can". It was a bunch of screeching out-of-tune noise. I spent years trying to figure out what the tune was (not found anywhere on the internet). Only recently I realized it is a joke tune. I will work it up on my banjo with grunts and other caterwauling. I might update the video with this hilarious story. I will put it on Mudcat as I have time. I',m betting he invented it because it is nowhere to be found even today.

Thank you so much for putting this version back online; it had disappeared from KZbin for a few years. Only ones available were mostly small or high school orchestras, which were great, but lacked the _grand_ grand quality of a nice big symphony.

Recorded this of 'Folk on 2' or one of its variants in the 1970s. Been unable to trace my recording and have been searching for the song for a good number of years. Hallelujah.

I heard your recording on the radio in 1976 or ‘77 and managed to catch the last half on a cassette. I have been looking for this song ever since, if only to learn the whole story. I’m delighted to find it here!

When you see a singer front man tapping his foot while all the audience and the musicians he plays don't,then you know they are just waiting for him to just leave. Especially if they are trying to play that Irish jig stuff the U.S likes to call bluegrass and think it's their own.
