YOUR EXPLANATION IS WRONG !! WHAT YOU POINTED OUT AS 4TH GEAR IS THE INPUT SHAFT THAT RUNS THE COUNTER SHAFT !! WHEN YOUR IN 4TH THE POWER RUNS DIRECTLY THROUGH THE MAIN SHAFT NOT USING ANY GEARS JUST THE DOGS COUPLING THE INPUT TO THE MAIN SHAFT. GET IT RIGHT!

Hey there, maybe you can help me since it looks like you have a alot of knowledge in the Toyota gearboxes. I am running a 200 series diesel 4.5 D-4D with the H150F gearbox. Now I ask myself wich of the plugs is the fill plug for fresh oil when doing the oil change. Is it the a bit higher one on the RH side, so same side as the drain plug or is it the bit lower one with the torx that is alone at the LH side? Bit confused and cant find any propper source online regarding this.

To be fair, it's not a gearbox issue per se, it's a drive style issue, most people don't addapt their driving when towing, but let's just say I've towed maximum permissible weights a fair amount and never killed a gearbox, Doesn't matter if it is on an old Ford Escort or a Land Rover, or Transit, you don't put excessive torque through the box in 5th as it's not ideal, however 4th is 1:1 and doesn't drive through the lay shaft, it does howver if too much torque is required it takes out the bearing in the back of the input shaft. as that is the stress point. The gearbox shown has had an oil starvation or shock load failure, if it was towing torque then it would also damage the initial lay shaft gear, what the presenter called 4th gear. for reference there is often a bearing in the centre plate so 5th is actually trapped between 2 bearings, that removes twist in the main shaft, so if the 1st gear thrust washer is broken, it suggests that it's not towing in 5th that killed the gearbox, but poor pullaways or lack of oil...

Stand behind your product and give it a REAL warranty 100,000KM and 8 Years. I flog the piss out of my tuned V8 and tow in 5th gear. Has 160K on it and it only started changing gears nicely after 140K. Gotta use Castrol Syntrans 75/85 if you want it to last and change at least every 40K

You're a little unclear here, as collapsable spacers are NOT inherently more likely to wear bearings sooner than solid IF SET RIGHT and will not alter the pinion depth any more than a solid would when wearing. None of them can "un-crush" or re-tighten to adjust for bearing wear so when a tapered roller wears, provided it was never over-preloaded, it wears the same, pinion depth changes the same and if it were to wear enough to come loose and have float, it's also the same result. Diffs are NOT "doomed" with a collapsable spacer at all, it's simply easier, less complex and harder to get wrong with a solid. All of that equals cost and time, so is a no-brainer.

I am a victim of the R151F gearbox with its weak 5th gear( which blew up ) and the gearbox to transfer case connecting shaft with its spline stripping problem in my old troopy…. $3300 for a new gearbox and $350 for the upgraded connecting shaft…… was still all good when I sold it. Loved my troopy.

But when I have towed on the highway in 4th once I get just over 80 she wants to go to 5th coz she will start reving to high?? So when towing do we need to just only do 80/85 in 4th in a 1hz 😅
@aarondavis673 Жыл бұрын
Bit of a common misconception there, 1HZs are quite happy to sit at 3000rpm all day. Nothing wrong with doing 100 in 4th

Does my land cruiser 105 with 1hz non turbo engine have the r151f gearbox ? I do mostly city driving with loaded trunk. Maybe a lil towing. Should I be worried about the gearbox ?
@GlenQuagmire-dj9ws Жыл бұрын
Na don’t be worried. Imo the R151 is a very solid box. I’m running it in my turbo diesel hilux and towed a 2.5 ton caravan from vic to Queensland many times and it’s held up fine. I rekon it’s down to the driver changing to too high gears too early and lugging the car and putting excessive load on the gearbox

Brian, I work for an international relief organization and we are experiencing serious issues with our gearboxes from HZJ79, red cross model. The gearboxes are breaking to the rate of consumable items. the drivers are very experienced with the terrain and 4X4 Toyota vehicles. We are really struggling to understand the problem...have you ever experienced or heard about something similar...please advise

80/100/105 series 1hz's had the h150 1hd and fz engines had the h151 1HZ's never had the r151 unless they came in the very late 79s, r151's were fitted to vdj79s only (in the landcruiser range) please get your info correct

Haha you have no idea what you are talking about! You've got it the wrong way around! HZJ105 ONLY came out with the R151 gearboxes here in Australia. All 80 series are H150/H151. All factory turbos & V8s are H151/H152s. HZJ79 Series ONLY came out in R151. OMG You are dreaming if you think the VDJs came out in R151s - there would be such a world-wide class action against Toyota they'd go broke! Get YOUR info correct Not-So-Logical !

Hi, I am Graeme John Eddington. Following is my KZbin post of my Multi-speed transmission I have called: "Opposing Torque Dynamic Clutch" which is a type of Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT) which I believe is ideal for your current applications. Australian Patent Number: 2020201132. Please log on to my KZbin video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iXKmdX5ubrpqhq8 In summary: It is a Compound Planetary System with two inputs from two separate electric motors. Motor 1 tries to rotate the carrier counter-clockwise and Motor 2 tries to rotate the carrier clockwise. The ratio, acceleration and speed of the vehicle is controlled by the amount and proportion of power/torque from the two motors. In addition the ratio of the transmission is affected by the speed and load of the vehicle. So, with the aid of speed sensors on all the components of the transmission, the speed of the vehicle, position of the accelerator and a kick-down switch - all that is needed to control the whole system is a computer. There is no actual gear selector for the driver to operate, however a manual mode would be appropriate where the driver has a 'balance' control knob that manually controls the proportion of power/torque to each motor and therefore can choose any ratio desired for the driving situation. An added enhancement could be added to the transmission by having a traditional planetary overdrive attached to each of the motors to enhance the rev range of each motor. This would enable the provision of extra modes like economy mode/sports mode and improve the kick-down mode by inputting more revs when the gearbox is in an extremely low ratio during kick-down operation. Having this type of transmission would improve acceleration and range of the vehicle allowing for a smaller battery pack/lighter weight leading to cost savings and simpler manufacturing. My name is Graeme J. Eddington, [email protected]
