The chick is being returned to the nest after being measured and banded by the field biologist. You can see the chick being removed from the nest here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/apLFlZyIh5h3d7M&lc=UgzWCk2uGvqnE3h2oGt4AaABAg The whole process takes just a few minutes and the adults readily resume caring for the chick.

The field biologist removed the chick from the nest in order to take measurements and put a bird band on the leg. The adult birds notice this happening (you can hear them calling in the background). After banding the chicks are returned to the nest and the adults resume caring for them. The chick is returned to the next after just a couple minutes.
