Supposed to cut the tips back. I've seen guys hand seal the cut side but I've never seen a reason to do that. Just cut the tips back.

Man oh man. I don’t even like shingles over shingles, but a low slope membrane over shingles is wild. The architectural for cap is just lazy and cheap.

Your 100% wrong. Nails need to be 6” from any key way. But yes they should not be that high . There is a nailing height location strip on most shingles. 40 year contractor

Thanks for commenting. This was to show the homeowner the correct nailing area without lifting the shingle. You are correct no nails in the key way.

I believe you're wrong, you don't want a nail head near the joints water will flow through there.

Correct no nails in the joints. I was showing the general area to nail without lifting the shingles too much.

Terrible reroof. Siding should have been removed, step flashings installed, asphalt felt on sidewall and over step flashings, and then reinstall the wall siding.

The last roofer had bought one of those giant 5 foot sandwiches for the crew when they finished the job. He was asking which one of the guys took his knife. I didn't tell him, but it was me. I took it and then went back the next day and chucked it up there. #TrueStory

Not too mention no roofing cement at all holes in the bottom of the base and it’s not mandatory but there should be some silicon where the rubber seal meets the pvc just too be safe

I thought the same thing but the bottom holes never had nails in them. It had a perma boot I removed to shoot the video.

In my 15 years on roofs I've never seen shingles placed that way, there is no starter and it's capender cut. Tbh this looks like some bs or someone cut it

Age contributes but it's the way they poorly installed the shingles. You are supposed to step them but if you look you will see the shingle below and above it and their seams in the same area. Those seams/joints are where the stress from expansion and contraction are the most prominent. By having it close to line up above and below they doomed the roof to failure
