Everything on context...i enjoy hearing differnt tongues. I think it fascinating. I will ask how to say small things in other's native tomgue, not to be disrespectful, but out of genuine curiosity and heae the cadence ams dialect.

A lot of you might wanna go to Asia and see their fashion... americans rip off their fashion and bring it to the US. Asians are 2 steps ahead of us in not just fashion but EVERYTHING if you haven't been tapped in that culture

😂😂😂😂 I will never be demanded to speak my language. And I can dress how I want, you don't get to tell me what to say, how to say it, how I dress or look. Thanks for tuning in! ❤

You know what IS AMERICAN CULTURE. IGNORANCE. First export even though it’s pretty up there with RACISM. The US’s two major exports. Even the ones who were the og sufferers now a days take proud part in it.

Sometimes people are just curious to learn about other cultures and that’s why they ask the name of the language and want to know how it sounds. No need to be offended by everything.
@kingamfo5 ай бұрын
This is true. It’s not offensive when someone’s interested. What’s offensive is when they learn you’re from a different place the first time and the very next statement is “say something in your language” kinda like a command. Being Ghanaian my first language is English so that statement can come off offensive.

@kingamfo5 ай бұрын
It’s like you telling someone you’re a dancer and they tell you to dance. It’s all about how you ask but some people take offense to that especially when English is probably their first language.

She loves telling people that are Cambodian And that english is her second language and Khmer is her first language- BUT then finds it a pet peeve when people ask her to speak her language - make it make sense
@DRword_salad5 ай бұрын
It makes sense. While she loves talking about her background, she doesn't want to put on a performance like a circus clown when she first meets her. I'm the same way
@Bdksidnd5 ай бұрын
@@DRword_salad appreciate your response. For me, the clip came across as arrogant . It may not be the case for everybody but for a lot Of people, It’s a natural question. Because you’re intrigued and have an interest in the culture/language. Whilst I understand it may make some people cringe, it’s worth being empathetic to others who are showing a genuine interest in your culture. I’m not white and I don’t get offended when people ask me to say a few words in my native language. They learn something for the day.
@DRword_salad5 ай бұрын
@Bdksidnd I get what you're saying. I feel like it doesn't help that the instance she mentions, which is usually my experience, the other person wanting to hear the language give a command, instead of respectfully asking. I feel that might make a bit of a difference in my willingness. I'm always a fan of education, but I don't like it when I'm talked down to, which might be the woman in the video's experience. If strangers come off as rude, then they can simply rely on Google to learn about my culture. We are certainly not the only source for info. My friends respectfully inquire about my language and culture, and I'm always willing to inform, but strangers are always "you speak "indian"? Say something.". Its never people wanting to learn a few words for themselves. They just want to hear me speak. It sounds like they're either testing me to see if im lying or getting me to put on a show for them. If it's kids, I'm less stringent and understand that they might not know the best way to communicate, but I expect better from adults.
