The song is a little corny-pop but the guitaring is fantastic!
@gretschoholic3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! (- said the guitar player) :-) Actually, it's a Norwegian Christmas song for kids, so of course it's a little corny. The original lyrics describe Santa Claus sitting in a barn eating x-mas porridge while fighting off a pack of rats who also want some. We changed a few words, making Santa come off like a drunk who didn't wanna share his booze. After this TV appearance, there was actually an angry reader post in one of Norway's biggest newspaper, criticizing us for messing with the lyrics. "Is nothing sacred anymore...?" or something like that. LOL!

Hot Rod Golf (A. Westhagen) For many years I’ve fantasized but now I’ve finally realized that I’ll never have money fallin’ out of my ass. No more dreams of Coupe DeVilles. There ain’t no way I could pay the bills. Imagine the amount I’d spend on gas. The American car that I can pay has yet to see the light of day, at least until my lottery tickets hits. I’m stuck with this old German wreck, so I just thought «Hey, what the heck! Time to give this baby bigger tits!» Ref: Check it out, see what I’ve done Seems there’s hope for everyone My little lamb has grown to be a wolf Ain’t she cool, my little old Hot Rod Golf I’ve lowered the front and heightened the back, repainted the body pink and black, bought fake leopard skin covers for the seats. Got me a set of white wall tyres and all the chrome my heart desires. I’m tellin’ you cats, this car looks really neat The engine ain’t the largest one. a V-eight would be really fun, but there ain’t enough space under the hood Well, that problem’s easily solved: if I disconnect the manifold it’ll sound much louder than a V-eight would Ref: Check it out, see what I’ve done…etc

That's not us. We're the original (as in FIRST!) Built For Speed, not the others - they nicked the name some eight years after we started, and they didn't have the courtesy of finding a new name when they became aware of us. The difference in writing 4 or FOR is a moot point, most people don't "hear" the difference. Hopefully, they hear the difference when either of us play... ;-)

gretschoholic Man you have to hate that we are a Rockabilly band in Queensland Australia and have had the same problem our band BobKats have been going 12 years, then another band calling themselves BobKatZ with a Z came along, they even tried legal proceedings the pricks....

Happens alot, I like The Mission & The Quireboys, fucking annoys me that cos of the yanks, they have to have UK after their names, although apparently some tiny band in california tried sueing One Direction for their name (sadly the cali band sounded shit too)

I didn't catch Setzer's last tour of Europe, but he always plays (too) long guitar solos live, doesn't he...? ;-) Yes you're right he play too much lead guitar parts
@gretschoholic11 жыл бұрын
Agree to disagree? :-) The Town Hall Party was a TV show, and the song was just 4 or 5 months old. Eddie also performed the song in the UK just before he died, without a guitar solo. But my point was that after his death, he has become such a guitar hero that he PROBABLY would have added more guitar solos to his live shows, if he had lived to see the status he achieved. I didn't catch Setzer's last tour of Europe, but he always plays (too) long guitar solos live, doesn't he...? ;-)
@The17046011 жыл бұрын
i'm not sure than eddie will add a lead part on this song. Look at his town hall party performance. At last i'm a big fan of Brian Setzer but he had a problem when he play live. He add too long an steril lead guitar parts on his own material. I've seen Brian in 2011 in Paris and his performance (rockabilly riot) was the worst rock 'n' roll performance i've never seen (except chuck berry of course)
@gretschoholic11 жыл бұрын
Well, without a solo it would just be a little more than 2 minutes long, wouldn't it...? Which was nice for a hit single in 1958, but kinda short in a live situation. And if Eddie had lived to see what a guitar hero he became, I'm sure he would've added a guitar solo in his live versions... :-)
