Why do you want to slam the stem or cut it? Remove one spacer and put it on top of the stem. The ride it for a few hundred km to let your body adapt to the new position. As you remove spacers, you may need to slide the saddle back a few mm (e.g. 3 mm), and possibly lower it 1mm for every 3mm of setback increase in order to maintain the weight balance on the bars.

CAAD 10 (arguably best alu road frame ever made and available for beer money these days - double whammy!) on rim brakes - perfectly good enough for me on the Haute Route Ventoux, the Marmotte Alps and I'll be keeping the same setup for next year on the Santini Stelvio. I'd be far more concerned about the limits of tyre adhesion to the road than the stopping power of rim brakes, even in the wet.

Going way back to my BMX bikes in the early 80's, I loved tan walls. They looked bad-ass on blue SKYWAY mags. My first road bike, which I actually have a photo of, from 1987, had tan wall tires. I skateboarded for about 30+ years, and, with some exception, insisted on white skateboard wheels. They looked best, and eventually aged to a nice, classic off-white. Now, I'm a roadie again and ride tan walls on all my bikes. Only exceptions are the steel studded Schwalbe Marathons on my winter bike and the reddish brown sidewalls on the Conti 5000 I ride on my Pinarello. They just look perfect for the application, as it has brown leather bar wrap. At present, I'm working on building up/restoring/modifying a 1984 Kuwahara BMX. I plan on using 451 size rims (the skinny, slightly taller ones) and am trying to source some 20×1 3/8" tires with tan walls. So far, the search is futile. For this build, price will be no object, but if they don't exist...

Rim brakes waaay better...easier to work on and when are you descending at full speed down a mountain in the rain? 99% of cyclist ride train and race in good conditions and when you ride how many times to you brake? The goal is not to brake. You brake at lights, care, traffic, or the onebemergency..Rim brakes were designed to combat the early poor design of carbon wheel they thought would wear out the brake track. Now you don't hear of brake track wear.

Also 2 months of use and overall very happy... To increase a little the shift speed I use competitive mode , but you have to turn it off in the end of ride if not the group will not sleep and will drains the battery fast... One thing is annoying is warning of to low battery in garmin when you still got 55/60% of charge , wheeltop should correct it in future software in my opinion for abaout 30% or below... The app is improving , but should be more clear in the trims tunning setting for the FD

Guys! You all miss the point regarding the Belgians in this race. This race was criticized a lot in our country … and amongst riders and observers. What happened is very simple: 3 of the belgian’s in the chasing group are all riding in the same pro team as Van der Poel (Alpecin Fenix) . All those guys are pro riding for him the all season. They all raced for Matthieu during that gravel world race and not as a team. The only one ( Stuyven) riding for Lidl Trek was blocked by the others . He was mad after the race. Gravel world UCi is fair new. It was a first world race in Belgium. There was no team , no coach / manager with clear tactics. And Alepcin managed the place as much riders (Belgians) as they could to help Matthieu Vanderpoel ( Ned) win this race. They even admitted at the end with dum post race interviews. That being said, Matthieu was the strongest guy. Regarding the tracks, those are my weekly tracks for gravel. I made a big part of the track last Sunday. I can tell you it was NOT an easy one. We were all fooled by the amazing speed of those’d guys. I can not even imagine how they can go that fast on those tracks. There are wholes, stones, bad cobblestones sometimes… lot’s of (short) extreme ups and downs. Too short to get them on the elevation maps… but though to ride fast on a 185 km track.

It was a weak field with 1 great rider , Van Der Pole and the Belgians. I agree that other nations have much better roads for a gravel or rough road race! Peter Sagan grew up on gravel roads in Slovakia. That and great tactics is why he was a dominate racer. Van Der Pole has similar skills to Sagan and could win numerous World Championships like Sagan. .
