I remember the way we all danced to this at the tiles club in Oxford street London in the 60’s. Great days great music. ( I think this was originally a stones song ) however this was the dancer😎

You keep telling me yes But you don't mean it You keep telling me no And try to lean it You're giving me buts and maybe You know this will drive me crazy Why can't you tell it like it is? And let your yeah be yeah And your no be no, now Let your yeah be yeah And your no be no, now Because I'm on my guard and I'm watching you from head to toe So that let your yeah be yeah And your no be no You wear a plastic smile I know by your eyes You speak with indefinite style You're telling me lies You've got to face reality What is wrong with you and me? Why can't you free your honesty? And let your yeah be yeah And your no be no, now Let your yeah be yeah And your no be no, now Because I'm on my guard and I'm watching you from head to toe So you better let your yeah be yeah And your no be no You keep telling me yes But you don't mean it You keep telling me no And try to lean it You're giving me buts and maybe You know this will drive me crazy Why can't you tell it like it is? You better let your yeah be yeah And your no be no, now Let your yeah be yeah And your no be no, now AZlyrics

I've heard all hree now. Linda Ronstadt, Betty Everett and the original version with Dee Dee Warrick. I have to say. Dee Dee has the best version, go compare. You may think differently but I like Dee Dee 's. It really grooves and the singing style is cool. They're all good, however.

Actually Dee Dee Warrick sang this first. Linda has the best music behind it but Betty has the best voice of all three. ❤

This is a gorgeous example of the language music speaks. If your alone and you hear this all the senses are alive with the story she delivers. She needs nothing to perform cause its all her just being her and her groove draws you in,.

This version has more of a calypso sound to it. Linda Rondstadt version is famous for her powerful voice but I think it was the bass and the guitar on that track that made the biggest difference.

What power no she was just white ,cane out with it a decade later unlike Dee Dee Warwick who did it first and Betty who also like Warwick did it in 63 a few months later. Yes as with other things in the early 60s racism affected music also so many like you even then loved the watered done versions of songs by none black artist .As usual her watered down from the original her fans are not getting a Linda was just trying in vain to mimic a sound tone a Everett’s had on this song that is just bred and born in her ,a growing up in the black church gave these black artist . Now with Dee Dee many stayed farther away from trying to copy her first version a few months earlier before Betty’s in 63 because she id even more raw, soulful have deep church soul from decades in the church ,her family gospel roots, that yes made her sister Dionne famous but then two decades later here comes a first cousin Whitney Houston born in the right time, having these church roots breaking down racial barriers even more like her cousin Dionne’s came closer to doing .

First time I heard this song I really liked it but I had no idea who the singer was, it was partially played in the 1985 film House, and the full song was played over the end credits. It was only credited to Clint Ballard but clearly wasn't a male voice. It took the use of the Soundhound app decades later for me to finally find the singer.
