I hit mine that high and cow called. He turned around and I hit slightly lower but found him 3 hours later 40 yards from the shot spot. He must have doubled back when I was off looking 🙏 sorry if you didn’t find him.

If you really want big bucks. Look up where your state record was taken. You will usually find that several records come from the same area. It’s what’s available in the soil that the plants they’re eating are growing in.

even if it did hit top lung,it's not good for recovery. the lungs fill with air from the bottom up,when you hit high on the lungs it can still breath fairly well for quite a bit. lungs wont collapse on a high hit. this elk will probably live, even if it does die recovery unlikely.
