Sydneysider who's lived in NZ here, spent a lot of time in Japan and been through the Wellington/Kaikoura 7.8 mag quake in 2016. Here are some do's and don'ts I leant from NZ and Japan: - Don't stand in your doorway, as doors can swing and cause injury. Keep them open in case the building's structure moves so much that closed doors leave you trapped inside. - Don't go outside due to falling debris, unless it's a wide open space like a park. - Keep away from windows, bookshelves and other large furniture that can fall and cause injury. Seek shelter under a table. - Fill a bathtub with water in case water gets shut off or contaminated from damage caused by the quake. Hopefully things will never get that bad here in Aus, but it's good to know and may save a life. All the best!
