Does anyone know why this isn’t in the musical anymore?

The backstory is that towards the end of the show Claude is in Sheila's apartment. They are alone. It's his last night before taking the train for the army. Sheila has promised Berger that she will spend the night with Claude. Claude confesses to Sheila that actually he is an alien from another planet, and that he wants her to go back to Exanaplanetooch with her. Lights fade. they make love and she sings the song 'Climax'. This is what happened on stage in the first version. They had tried to maintain the scene in the Broadway version, but with all the rewritings this segment made less and less sense every day. 'Climax' was soon cut. 'Exanaplanetooch' resisted more, but was dropped (along with 'You Are Standing On My Bed') after the first previews, and 'The Bed' took their place.

Nice little memory jerker of my brother Bob, sadly and I am almost embarrassed to say I never watched him play, he is missed every day... Just a little correction Mark, we never lived in Saltash, at that time it would have been Torpoint..... Thanks for shearing....

I’m sorry, I’ve only just seen this! Yes, Torpoint, of course ha ha. We used to play a pub there and used a hut there to practice. He was a man mountain lol.

Gonna have to check this out. My wife's fan sometimes works sometimes doesn't, bit random. But given it's bloody cold at the moment I want to fix it soon. Just needed to know how to get to it, thanks for posting.

This song is great, but it needed it's own musical. It could be about an alien who who is stranded on Earth and falls in love with a girl he meets.

This is the best version of this song hands down. I had this vinyl. It's so intimate and touching. All the other versions after this are just a little loud and try to be too much

It was originally taken out when they got to Broadway because Lynn Kellogg had trouble singng it but then thankfully Galt it back in for the black kids to sing.If he could only have kept "Exanaplanetoosh" and "The Climax" in too.

TIL there's an album of the off-Broadway cast. I grew up with the 1968 Broadway album, and knew all the words before I was 8. Shelly Plimpton sang on both versions, but sounds more waifish here. Thanks for posting.

Awesome! I was in Florence and the Bears! It was around late '80's. I was young and joined as (bad) lead guitarist. I think it might have been after this guy Stevie? They were a top bunch of guys. Ginge was cool, into his Brit bikes. Dean used to live in the street next to me with his misses Mary and was a top top guy (they split up after i left), Bob lived in Saltash with his wife Fiona. I think they had a kid and after i left i heard Bob died unfortunately. You'd struggle to meet a nicer, more gentle giant. Roddy was cool and lived in Saltash too. I was really young, only around 16/17 i think but had the best time with these guys. It was a real education. I always felt a little bad that i was rubbish but they never complained to me, lol. Do you know any of them Ian? It was a crazy time in my life. I think about these guys all the time. So glad you posted this up. Thanks.
@MrTransparent998 жыл бұрын
+mark “BlackTopMedia” turner I knew them all fairly well Mark. Me and the missus (Sally, long curly red hair) used to watch them in Plymouth and SE Cornwall. I think Roddy lives on the West Coast of America now, Ginge I'm not too sure about, saw him a few years back driving round and round Sainsbury's (dodgy battery apparently), Dean is still in Plymouth (works for the Parks Dept?), I saw Mr Baker a few years back and was violently sick after overindulging a little too much and unfortunately Bob died and I agree with you - he was a real nice guy, they all were.
