Thank you for your insight! I start my first substitute job on Monday and I’m pretty nervous. 😥 I care so much of doing a good job and providing a good learning experience for the kids to where I’m scared I’ll get it wrong and the teacher won’t want me back. Might seem irrational but that’s my fear.

I liked the first outfit the best. And the second outfit, I would have did a white long sleeve underneath because ya girl gets too cold. My school has the AC blasting sometimes in the winter. Makes no sense.

Number 1 is so true. You just can’t stop improving something or making it more interesting, more up to date, more suitable for this definite group of students. I have to say stop to myself, stop creating ))

Maybe it’s just me but the lighter yellow steals the spotlight from you while the mustard feels more harmonious with your skin.

That first yellow shirt you're holding up is MY yellow I feel so confident in pastel yellow and I've gotten lots of compliments on it (I'm a winter but idk what sub category winter I am but I would totally wear that "mustard" yellow out in public because in this video it reads more as a dandelion yellow to me I think of mustard as more greenish/brownish like in the same family as tan and chatruse but I wonder if that's enough info alone if you'd be able to tell if I'm a cool winter or deep winter lol)

When I did mine about 30 years ago, it was such an "AHA!" moment for me. I went through my closet and removed the suits and blouses that were "not my colors" and realized that they were the ones that I HATED wearing and had to force myself to keep in rotation. It just made so much sense. I ended up giving them to a friend of mine who was an Autumn, and she in turn gave me a few gorgeous jewel toned tops and scarves that were so perfect. So I'd say you can probably "go with your gut" as you'll probably instinctively choose what looks right. Oh and 'true' RED lipstick always looks orange on me, so that's why it just doesn't work...
@amandaros3Ай бұрын
@@jtidema thank you for this! You’re so right! When I look at old photos (before I was influenced by trends) I often wore my colors. Once the nude and beige tones took hold, I started wearing those but also increase my makeup which clearly was a way for me to compensate for the wrong colors

Being comfortable saying no is something I absolutely need to work on. Particularly with the drinking water and using the bathroom, when I don't agree with the school policies on it. But yeah, learning not to throw the school under the bus because I don't want to seem like the bad guy is something I realise I need to work on.
@amandaros32 ай бұрын
Thank you for your transparency. It is such a fine line when you don't agree with school policy but if you build a great relationship with your students, they will respect your classroom rules and honor the environment you're trying to create in your classroom.

That's shocking to me your admin would back you up in taking a student phone. Not at our school 😥. Teachers are on their own and even get yelled at by admin for taking devices from kids (due to parent complaints).
@amandaros32 ай бұрын
Yeah, parent-buy in is so important with helping with cell phone management. We had parents sign a form in the beginning of the year that gave us permission and most of the time, I gave it back at the end of class because I didn't want to be responsible for it all day.

Thanks for the tips. I am about to start and my biggest fear is not knowing math questions if they need help or being able to teach math to the students as I forget most of it. What do I do in this situation? How proficient do you have to be at subject knowledge in order to sub well?
@cosmicconnection67193 ай бұрын
Thanks for the Tips, but why wouldn't a substitute share the 'problem kids' list with the teacher? To say it gets on your nerves... well disrespectful kids get on the nerves of the Substitute, who feels helpless and under supported much of the time. I wouldn't care to be called back to a disrespectful class, with the Sub-teacher shortage out here

This was super helpful. I’ve been working in a charter school for 9 years so my pension wouldn’t even start the 40 year mark after I’ve already taught for almost a decade. I’m tired too lol and I thought DOE would mean less work
@amandaros33 ай бұрын
Ugh, that was me. I switched at the end of my 9th year. The transition was really hard for me. It's not has difficult now, BUT, I don't think I can teach until I retire which is the whole point of the DOE, (pension is the point) but I might just do another 10 years, retire early, get whatever I can and then go back to school to do something completely different.

I loved this video! It was super helpful because I am currently a year 5 teacher with the NYC Doe thinking about switching to charter. It sounds like they both have their pros and cons. Thanks again for the info 💕

I think if you're already in the DOE I would NOT switch to charter. You get more out of DOE, especially if you're already in the system.

I'm in NYC, I worked at a charter school and then went back to grad school for my second master's to get certified/licensed, hoping to eventually find a job in the DOE. The charter school I was at had issues- high turnover, lower pay, and no union.
@amandaros33 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's eventually one of the reasons why I left my school (high turnover and no union)
@nicholasmrvos62203 ай бұрын
Sounds a bit different than GA. Charter schools here typically pay less than standard public schools. But one more point here is that charter schools in GA ARE public schools. They have the same retirement but the major difference is here a charter is either run by the actual system or a non profit organization runs them
@amandaros33 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I should have mentioned that too. Charter schools are considered public schools and not private schools but charter school teachers are not protected under the same rights as union teachers in the department of education. Independently run but have to answer to New York State and not the City
