Most of us grew up in flats or homes with lateral spaces (every space on the same level), or perhaps a second story for bedrooms, and even a basement. But I cringe when I see a 6-story townhouse, even with an elevator. How effective is one elevator with husband, wife, three kids and their friends, at least two household staff, out-of-town visitors, etc.? And we’re not talking high-speed elevators from office towers. We live a fast life today, not the leisurely lifestyle of 100 or even 50 years ago.

It seems like a very, surprisingly cosy, if fabulously costly house. Until you realize that it has a huge foyer. AND A BALLROOM.and roomy kitchen. And glorious outdoor balconies. And that says PARTY. This is a home for entertaining, on a small or very significant scale. In a very fabled old school sort of way... And this is rare, even at this price range, in a city that measures everything in daily useable square footage. You can easily imagine Society cocktail parties, and the flash of light bulbs...or your Company's Christmas bash... on those black and white floors. Mentally i'm already decorating it for the holidays, in grand White House fashion...

I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for...
