A great recording and performance of an excellent Romantic Symphony. I love the heck out of this Symphony. It does everything its supposed to do. Its written in 1869 Germany. Who is it supposed to sound like ? Comparison's are inevitable but not really fair. I know if i were in Carnegie Hall listening to this Symphony I would be thrilled and exhilarated, as I am now. Thanks for posting this fine ,strong Symphony. I happy to make the acquaintance of Dietrich !

Isasi is so neglected and so unknown it isn't funny. He's so good. He has melody, great ochestration, and late Romantic Germanic harmony. At least much if his music is recorded now for us all to hear. This is a beautiful, poignant piece. His Second Sumphony is a Masterpiece.
@ericdevaughn59416 күн бұрын
Andres Isasi certainly had the gift of melody and learned his harmony right out of Richard Strauss playbook. But Isasi us all original. This is really All Isasi. Real, Real Good !

One of his teachers was Simon Sechter, who was one of Bruckner's teachers, teaching Bruckner theory and counterpoint. The last movement sounds a bit like Bruckner.

It would be great to hear this promising symphony in better audio quality. Could anyone upload/share the recording featuring the Assumption Grotto Orchestra under Eduard Perrone (Grotto Productions label)?

An entertaining and enjoyable composition. A bit unusual in having both interior movements in triple time.

Hello José I've ever heard a classical piece from Wranitzky, but I can remember the piece. Sure it wasn't this symphony The symphony is very beautiful 🎵🎻👍

Just heard a piece of his for the first time, on Sirius XM, and I thought I was hearing a piece by Price. But listening to this beautiful piece here, I see there's not really that much similarity- maybe just that the 2 composers were from a similar era, even though Florence was American and Samuel was British.

Easy for me to like this. I have love and respect for the composers of the so-called "common practice" period.

Gorgeous ! Not a standard Symphony at all . This opens Choral. Magnificent. Quite Unique for a Symphony. More Romantic in style than Impressionist. I would love to hear a live performance of this ! Loving It .

A friend of mine was a student at Eastman when Hanson was there. He told me that Hanson got "criticized" for this symphony sounding too Hollywood. Hanson had a bulletin board outside his office pointing out that the symphony was written before Hollywood used symphonic orchestras (The first orchestrated movie soundtrack was KING KONG in 1933) and that Hollywood borrowed from him rather than the other way around. LOL 12:03

I hear pinches of both Mozart and Beethoven, with a dash of Haydn. Netzer seems to have mixed them all nicely with his own motifs in this sprightly composition.

This is music full of desire and very powerful in scope. It leaves me with the impression that these 6 minutes of musical material contain all the necessary motives needed for the build-up of an 1h+ intense Brucknerian symphony.

Love this piece! No one was writing music in America like this in the 1850s! (I cannot think of anyone in Europe doing it, either --except, perhaps, Hector Berlioz) Thank you for sharing it!
