In this situation I would have faced either blue or green and do M2 U2 M2 so the cross pieces are solved relative to each other, then bring the white red cross edge down to the bottom (getting the F2L pair up to the top), then I line up the cross with D2, this way, I can solve the cross while preserving the F2L pair.

These tutorials are invaluable. Most of the techniques aren't that advanced which tells me that I'm just too slow in turning, recognition, look ahead, etc.
