Just querying I've seen you cull animals in other videos for not having the correct tines yet you often shoot young Sika in Velvet? Any reason why you dont take yearlings?
@backcountryhunter52435 жыл бұрын
The majority of animals we take are hinds, but at this time of year we don't shoot hinds as they have young fawns at foot. If we see a potential trophy at this time of year we don't shoot it, but yes we do take some young stags for meat if no yearling hinds around if we need to fill the freezer.

Sorry to hear about your dog it's always hard to lose a good mate.
@backcountryhunter52436 жыл бұрын
Yes - was sad to lose her, she was an awesome dog, found lots of deer for us and had a real personality. She was Ben's dog but if I went on my own and Ben wasn't going out she would just come along with me as well. Ben has brought a heading dog and training that now, going well so hope to have her out in a month or so.

what tent bro
@backcountryhunter52437 жыл бұрын
Hi Fat Lab The tent is an MSR Carbon Reflex 3 man tent, just right for two people, our gear and dog. Good tent but just need to be a bit carefull where you set up as not a 4 season tent.

Great stuff! What calibre are you using to get out to those distances?
@backcountryhunter52438 жыл бұрын
The gun used for the 412 yard shot is a custom NZ Hunter 300 FX. Quite a comfortable shot for this gun, Ben has shot deer out to 700 yards with it, all one shot kills.

Thanks, yes always enjoy the Kawekas for a change. Living in Taupo, most of our hunting is in the Kaimanawas, up the Mountain and the Ahimanawas.
