I tend to think of MS as the best fingerpicking guitarist alive, and forget sometimes that he's also one hell of a singer. So grateful to live in a period when MS is making music--whether the changing times are looking hopeful or grim.

I found this song on a CD of early blues slide guitar songs and stuck it in the slot in the lorry. I was on the loading bay at night, with the lights all shining off the pouring rain. I couldn't believe this song so when I got home I looked Martin up, thinking that he died in 1938, like all the other artists on the album, only to find that not only was he still alive, but he was playing 15 miles away from my home a week next Tuesday! I went along and had quite the conversation. Lovely bloke, and the best acoustic guitar player I've ever heard...

My first LP from Martin, superb. Was also honoured to hear Anne Lister play this at the IOW Folk Festival year's ago. Always cracks me up! 😢

Beautifully done! Kudos for your wonderful tribute to the writer, Craig Johnson. Like you, so many artists come to feel a strong connections to the writers of the songs they do, but it is rare to see somebody express their connection so well. Thank you.

Fantastic as the arrangement is by Martin, I think Norma Waterson's version has more of a feel of the 'Sea' in it. Not that its a competition or anything. Just an artistic perspective.

This Indiana boy has been listening to and playing this song since 1978. First got turned on to it by my best friend of many years who sadly is no longer with us. He's been on my mind and I am truly grateful he had such good taste in music. It has always made me miss and appreciate those who are now gone . Search for Jim Ringer's cover of this gem.

Jim Ringer told a great story of how a young stranger introduced himself to him and Mary McCaslin before a gig somewhere in the mid 70s, and told them he had written a song he wanted them to hear that he thought would be perfect for them. They were nice enough to let him play it for them in their dressing room. Turned out to be Craig Johnson, and the song was "New Harmony."

In the late 70's I watched John Prine play in small clubs three times. I didn't know until years later how fortunate I was. Bonnie Rait sang this amazingly. Thanks , I love all your performances, Martin.

Too obvious, good but like an essay by a 14 year old. Grow up man you can play the guitar so well but outside of that cliche and on the nose polemic
