Wow. Thank you for sharing this footage of the greatest wartime aircraft. The sound of those Rolls Royce Merlin engines really makes the hair stand up on your neck. When I left school in 1969 & started work, I just knew, I had to have my own fleet of airfix models of both of these aircraft.I must admit, my favourite had to be the supermarine spitfire. I built a RC model some 15 years ago, but never flew it.

Fantastic footage! Used to attend Mildenhall and Fairford from late 80s to early 90s. The "proper" airshow years. How I loved it! Miss those days so much

I was probably there. Mildenhall was one of the best airshows. It just outgrew itself, and security became a big issue.

Looking out for myself and my Dad on this video. Likely the best airshow he took me to. Seeing the American cars brought over by the USAF staff, the BBQ's, and the sheer number of aircraft I'd not laid eyes or ears on before. SR-71 was obviously a highlight - the only time I have ever witnessed one in flight, but I also recall visitors not only being allowed inside a KC-10 but being encouraged to exit the over-wing door and walk around on the wing itself. No safety ropes nor staff out there to assist. Amazing day out.

I really miss those Mildenhall days. The smell of burgers cooking over an oil drum, and walking through a C5.Magic times.

I was there and almost in this video 😐Meanwhile RAF West Malling, Battle of Britain airfield, and where I learned to drive a fire truck, is now a housing estate called Kings Hill 😥 Guy Gibson VC, later officer commanding 617 Squadron on the Dambusters Raid, said of the station "Of all the airfields in Great Britain ... we have the most pleasant"

DB was the squadron precursor for the RCAF's number 411 Squadron. The Squadron crest on the side forward of the windscreen is 411's Bear. The Squadron was formed in 1941and initially flew from Duxford. After the war, 411 became a reserve unit at Toronto's RCAF Station Downsview. I was in 411 in 1958 when we flew F86 Sabres

Oh, the memories! Me and my mate, Steve taking the sometimes 5-hour trek down to Lydden Hill to watch the European championship roll into town, was the highlight of our year. The cars were amazing, the drivers and the characters were even more so, and the racing had no equal, it still doesn't for me. I still remember vividly, Martin Schanche celebrating victory by drifting the RS200 around a lap of Lydden, wheels on the grass up hairy hill, before pitching the car at a crazy angle into the hairpin, engine fully lit flame pouring from the RS200 and tyre smoke and fuel filling the air. LEGENDS all!!

Halcyon Days indeed...gone forever now, but your video a reminder of the best of airshows. In the whole history of mankind and of his venture into the air we were very lucky to be have been around during these few brief glorious years and witness the pinnacle of military aviation. Thanks for posting.
