Arsenal "best team in Europe"?? 😂 You have to earn that label. They wouldn't even reach their first CL semi-final until 2006 and they've still never won it. Also Arsenal went on to lose the title that season (2002/03) because they also had a much poorer record than ManUtd vs the Top8 teams with this game 1of the bad results in such games. ManUtd 35pts vs Top8, Arsenal 17pts vs Top8. Arsenal not even best team in England let alone Europe and yet again ManUtd had the better season in Europe as well.

Beattie was a superb striker. He should have got a lot more international caps. As for Spurs, their defence was slow, flat footed and lacked the ability to read the danger sides. Hoddle never understood how important the defence was in a match! Hence, his defensive signings were average to mediocre! The defensive performance here was shambolic. You reap what you sow!

Hoddle‘s ignorance and naivety about the importance of have a solid defence was his undoing! He failed miserably to provide Spurs with a proper defence! He neglected to buy quality defenders, instead opting to buy attacking players! Hoddle’s complete naivety in constantly fielding teams with only very average defenders was his downfall! No sympathy!

Spurs under Hoddle were always poor in defence! He never understood the value of tight defending and proper marking. For Hoddle the game was all about attack, thus he signed several reasonable forwards but failed to sign any real decent defenders, who could win the ball and tackle tenaciously! Dean Richards was at the heart of the defence, but sadly was often injured, and when he did play, he was very unreliable and a shadow of his former self at Southampton. The result of Hoddle failing to sort out his defence, led to many defeats by average opposition, which in turn led to his inevitable sacking.
