Good Question regarding Robbie Robertson being on the Train ⁉️ Robbie flew in for each show. Janice was Balling Robert Chalabrois (Frank Zappa Band) at the time

Ozzy did blixk and didn't authorize any of his music to be used in this documentary and was asked to be part of it and denied the offer. So they had to go with who did want to contribute to this documentary which was the early Quiet Riot version which Randy was a part of. They didn't mention post Randy Quiet Riot because Randy had nothing to do with the success of that version of Quiet Riot.

There is an interview with Jon Taplin and Robbie on Utube. Taplin was the manager of The Band for awhile. Taplin recalls how he would go to Robbie's house at 9 in the morning and Robbie was up writing songs, the 3 other guys Rick, Richard and Levon were still sleeping, and when Taplin try to wake Levon up, Levon came after him with a knife. Also Robbie did a lot of research for his songs, going to library, especially Dixies and and Arcadian Driftwood. It was only after Levon went through his money he blamed Robbie.

According to Barney Hoskyns biography of The Band, they all made a lot of money, not as much as money as Robbie, but still a lot of money. Seems like a lot was wasted on drugs and bad money management. Also according to Joe Forno Jr's book "Levon's Man" Levon spend money recklessly. He did want to do things his way, and that was fine, but blaming Robbie for his money trouble is not fair. Having said that I love Levon's drumming and singing, as well as the other members of The Band. I'm huge fan of their music, also a huge Robbie fan and have a soft spot for Rick, so I'm not being judgemental. I'm of that generatin so I get the drug use. Robbie by his own admission was no angel, he did plenty of drug, but music always came first with Robbie, and he was more business minded than they others.

Jason Isbell is the 21st century Neil Young. He is outspoken, opionated, can make a les paul scream like a banshee and pick a acoustic guitar sing like an old soul. He sings what he has lived and takes positions on stuff that rattle the feathers of his contempories. As it goes, I mean what I say and say what I mean. It is a sad end of a dynamic couple. They complimented each other and made a lot of great art together. I started to listen to him after seeing Amanda live videos. And there would be Jason in the background in his trench coat with that tobacco burst strat and letting her shine as did she too with him. Covid victims as are many couples who just couldn't keep it together.

Now we know the relationship didn't last... it's sad.. it looked like the relationship was turning unhealthy. Hopefully both can learn from this. I learned a lot from my first marriage. Been with me second wife 30 plus years. Made a lot changes in myself. And My wife and I are on friendly terms with my first wife.

It was so weird to hear that the movie was about "a love triangle." Really?🤥Might be a good idea to watch it again.

The Offspring’s set on Friday night was the first indication of how disastrous things would become. Scher alluded to it slightly but he’ll never come out and admit that it was a shit show from the very beginning. As for Wyclef Jean asking people to throw bottles, he came on after Kid Rock played and KR asked them to do the same thing. The Offspring, Kid Rock and Wyclef Jean had the most amount of stuff thrown during their sets.

From the first time I heard Neil, I was a fan. Long hair and flannel shirts, and the freedom to do what I wanted not what others expected me to do soon followed. Fifty years later, I am still doing it and I thank Neil for showing me the way. Peace from SIKESTON,MO

I need to start by saying..I do love this film. I do feel compelled to say that Disc 2 also has some entertaining outtakes, and some of my favorite live performances(pot kettle black).. that are also worth mention. I also watched 'Where Are You, Jay Bennett?' the Doc that covers Jay's life and works to explain some of the actions that took place.(where I am at in this podcast.. you're talking about it now). I wasn't really a fan of Jay Bennett. I really couldn't handle this seemingly "put upon" attitude that Jay had. Jeff has said before that whereas Jeff was looking to create something... Jay was looking to create the best story.. it just seemed ingenuine. As a songwriter myself, I can be fully sympathetic to having someone who begins as a band comrade and a good creative influence, then over time the relationship becomes toxic and clouds an artist's original vision. What do you do? Wilco's circle DID need a center. Jay's 'mad scientist' routine had run its course. I love the film Ashes Of American Flags as well. Sucks I cannot find that online either.

The most startling moment in REALITY 86'ed, has to be , flag roadie and Rollins BFF, Joe Cole , ripped on 'shrooms, laying himself to rest, (notice the J.C pose) beneath his namesake headstone in Stull Cemetery, Kansas, foreshadowing his own horrific murder on the front stoop of he and Henry's home in Venice Beach, 5 years later , Dec. 21, 1991.

I like them; but Cervenka's monotone vocals begin to make me feel a bit uneasy after awhile. Still, I really love about a half dozen or so of their numbers. (The 'live at the whiskey' version of Burnin' house of love' is really kickin', yo)!

the end of the film has Ginsburg giving a off the cuff summation of what the tour was about and what they tried to accomplish....It's BS...but Ginsburg gave the official statement. but you are correct, however Dylan says in movie that Ginsburg is a great poet, but he's not a singer, songwriters......

Ronnie Hawkins was not on tour. Rambling Jack was....what about the real players, Baez, Rone Blakley, and McGuinn -- did they know this was gonna get fictionalized? They were very sincere - just to be clear - the guy who made the film footage, was supposed to be that Van Dorn guy nobody liked. I gotta watch this yet again -- what a mind fuck....

mcquinn had own set.....he sings the song about catching that horse when I can? --what bugged me was when Joni she was giving an interview backstage and bob walks up and she looks up and says, "what do you think?" and Bob snarled: "I think you'd better get out on that stage -- right now." Joni gets up and scurries off just like a good girl.......those two are something else ----so the Sharon stone thing was totally made up - she was not on the tour?

sorta feel like Scorsese punked us - I saw these made up things and they just didn't add up -- but I thought, well, it's a Scorsese doc, ah, but it's not! It's a "Story" -- so Sharon stone actually happened -- I will say that it chronicled the tour well, and that's a historical document. it does explain the reason behind it -- there is tons of footage of Rolling Thunder, - but no clarity or context. Even with the made up stuff, it gets the point across. But geez

David died of lung cancer not from alcoholism. Although I imagine the alcohol was a contributing factor. Also Bobby only worked as a janitor when they were off touring

Elijah Wood is the CEO of an independent record label called Simian Records. Still not sure what his role in the doc was supposed to be. I was under the impression that he signed Rough Francis since he was there but they were actually signed to Riot House Records

I don't know who your guest was but I thought I was the only completely enamored with Mr. Isbell. Not many firends or people around me care about him and to finially here someone share the same passion, it really felt weird cause most of time I always feel I've got to look over my shoulder and I'm having a moment listeing to his songs. He said, and I'm paraphrasing, "Jason is rock and roll that happens to have a southern accent". And pow. This interview with your guest really showed me that Jason really is an old soul. A poet, a reader, thinker, a muscian that happen to be born in the south with a accent but otherwise worldly. This was a damn good listen. Appreciate it.

I’ve rented this movie twice. I’d only learned about Guy Clark shortly before that. I really like his music. On other music…I think they paid $160000 for the music rights. From what I’ve gleaned from youtube, Guy was really smart. Besides writing, singing, and playing, he built a boat, and he built guitars. Not to mention he was a beautiful painter. I don’t think it could have been easy to live with and take care of someone who loved another man, as his wife did. The first time I watched it, the sheer depth of addiction struck me.

For all the non guitarist out there, Rhoads brought on a style of modal playing that is still used today. Randy is to soloing as the Beatles are to Rock and Roll yes that big

Wow, these guys never heard of soooo many of the guitar heroes that followed Rhoads or VH. Disappointing comentay and also they seem to miss the point that the documentary was supposed to lead into Rhoads iconic writing with Ozzy but "Ozzy" [ supposedly eternally grateful to Randy Rhoads] doesn't allow footage of Randy while in Ozzy's band. There are a lot of things wrong with this whole situation of Randy never getting the kind of credit VH did (and was probably a more influential guitarist) that still urks many people. I am great full for the recognition he has finally gotten. Rip RR

Great interview. The best so far with Thomas about A-ha and the movie. As a Norwegian it is so fun listening to him telling about his experiences with the process of making this movie about our beloved idols from our youth who have turned into something like our stubborn neighbor. We love them anyway.
