I just finished the book. I would like to know your opinion on what the book was actually about? Let me explain... SPOILERS AHEAD...... My first impression of it was that there was prehistoric remnants of people/animals that lived in an extensive tunnel network that were preying on unsuspecting people, trying to keep themselves hidden from the world, until the couldn't anymore. Then it seemed to shift to be a weird cult worked with those mentioned above that sacrificed people to....the land? A diety? Some vague creature(s)? With these "red" people that are still described as almost Neanderthal, but then you have regular people painted red also. Then it shifted again to a drug empire that was playing at being badass crime lords but were terribly stupid and was betrayed by their partners, but also had random things that killed everyone on the property. Then the ending goes right back to a vague supernatural note before finishing. All these different directions kinda made it hard to reliably comprehend the bigger picture as it unfolded.

😊❤ I agree with your out look on this book. I am glad I read it, though I did not understand what the main character’s problem was. It’s most likely what a woman’s perspective was of life around the time and location it speaks of. A “How to stay awake while you age and go insane from the men in your life.” Cheers Van.

I loved this Book. It’s a shame he won’t write a second one. He only needed 10,000 books sold to write a sequel and it’s not there. Feels bad.

Thanks for your review, Bob and Derek! I appreciate the candid discussion about my books from a couple of fellow writers. A few things: your points about errors and formatting are well-taken, and part of of the iterative process of indie publishing. When you're your own publishing company, art department, marketing department, etc., a lot of stuff can slip through. Thanks to the Kindle format it is easy to go back and correct them later (although there always seem to be more . . . ) In point of fact, Spellmonger was only my second novel I'd written, and probably the worst in the series. But both it and Warmage (2nd book) were necessary to set up my long-term plot aspirations. I encourage you to keep reading, because the character development, plot, and world building only get better as my skills as a writer improve. The ".5" books are actually novellas and short stories that handle characters and plot elements that didn't quite fit in the main series, but were well-served by a short form. The fans love them, and they encourage people to keep going through the main series. That's inclusive of the YA Hawkmaiden trilogy, which explores the world from the perspective of one of the young secondary characters. As you mentioned, there are currently 13 books in the series (# 14, Hedgewitch, will be released in February) and the entire series has been plotted for 30 books -- not including future ".5" works and further YA stuff. Professional note: 13 of those 14 books have all been written since George R.R. Martin wrote his last GoT series novel (WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR, GEORGE?) and I will continue this pace of at least one series book a year until they are done or I die. There is a distinctive story arc to the series that I want to explore, so that's my motivation. Again, thanks for your review, and I appreciate the honest criticism. Best of luck with your own publishing endeavors. Oh, and my beard game is strong. Best, Terry

I spent over an hour today trying to get one random blank page from the middle of my second book to stop showing up today, I totally understand the struggle of how insanely fiddly kdp can be. It should be so simple...just upload a word document...and then it all goes to hell haha! I've really enjoyed the first 3 books so far, and I will keep plowing through them as I get time, for sure. Like I said in the pod, I freaking love the kingdom building aspect of this series, it scratched an itch I didn't know I had. You really are an inspiration. I've been sitting on a good number of books for a few years now, and reading you really was what caused me to get off my ass and take the plunge. Showed me that if you'll just write the best story you can, then by and large most folks will forgive the little things. You've got a big head start on me haha, but I hope I can start to catch up over the next few years! Thanks so much for listening!!

I'm currently reading this book, I have about 50 pages left and I'm wondering where the horror is. Does it get more intense or is it just the odd creepy scene? I agree it's definitely not what I was expecting or looking for when I picked up the book. I know there is an audience that would love this I'm just not sure I'm that person, but I'm going to push through.
@talesbybob3 жыл бұрын
I mean, I'm not 100% sure. There is one pretty creepy scene towards the end, but you may already be past it. But yeah, I agree. I'd push through too, since you're so close, but if you had like...100 pages left I might would just drop it.
