When I competed in giant slalom, I made sure to stay at least a meter away from every gate. That made me lose a couple of seconds, but it was worth it. My knees are still fine.

A few seconds before the crash the German Eurosport commentator said: “i can’t imagine she will crash today.” And then she crashed. She is just a human being and she will come back even stronger. Go Mika.

I'm really sorry, but I feel like she did it on purpose, she herself was well aware that she slowed down at the end and therefore lost the lead...she probably wouldn't be able to accept 2nd place, since everyone expected her 100th victory today.. .I don't know, the whole fall thing is weird

Weight on the inner ski, can happen to anyone... Probably wanted to make it up for the mistake and tried to end the turn earlier, lost focus. IMO definitely not on purpose...

According to update on Threads she has a pretty good abrasion on her left hip where something cut her. Otherwise she will be okay and cheering her teammates on from the sidelines

Three gates before the crash is the mistake that caused it all. She got behind and tried to push it and booted out. Sucks that she hit the other gate after she fell. Very painful to slide over a gate like that. Hopefully it’s just some bad bruising.

This crash is worse than it appears. Her right ski got off very quickly in the turn (before the turn arch was completed). The forces are extreme at this part of the turn. I hope she's doing OK. She will definitely go for the historical 100th medal soon.

NBC coverage is terrible!! Terrible announcers then just cut away and no replay or analysis of the crash. NBC has the worst ski announcers!!

@@user-ix6ov1sm2g1. FIS owns the schedule and distributes a single feed with field audio to *all* broadcasters WW, with satellite time rented to the second. The only option NBC and others have is to add native language commentary. 2. They came back to Mikaela several times as she was being loaded to the sled and brought down, which was shown after the award ceremony.

There literally weren't updates at that time. US Ski Team Twitter account only said she was being evaluated at 2:36pm and she herself only posted a video from the hospital at 5:03pm

Damn, I hope she didn't tweak her knee. Playing in slow motion, it's hard to tell if she twisted very hard on it or not. Rolling over on her head didn't look very comfortable either. A bittersweet win for Sara.

Shiffrin just choked and lost her downhill ski in a simple turn, she hasn't done that since she choked the Olympics. The girl has head problems that won't easily go away. Olympics will be a hard climb for her.

Looked to me like she booted out the inside ski losing the edge which then triggered the loss of the edge on the downhill ski. They did not make as much manmade snow as usual on this course due to mild and humid weather, then got 2+ ft of natural snow in the last few days. While I agree Shiffrin has lost her competitive edge, the combination of flat light and inconsistent snow are certainly a big factor in this crash.

@@deeppurplefanGet serious, this is Mikaela shiffrin for the love of a goose in the wild. She stiffened up and lost the edge, it's a huge choke. It's easy to see with shiffrin because she doesn't ever fall; except when she chokes on the big stage, her mind leaves the course and her skis leave the snow. Got nothing to do with conditions; just the conditions of her brain...choke.
