Ah, the joys of internet commentary! I’m flattered that my storytelling could be mistaken for AI-generated content, but I actually took this one from the book Prisoner’s Dilemma by William Poundstone. I guess even real stories sound too good to be true sometimes! As for the thumbnail-well, let’s just say I like to keep things visually exciting. Thanks for stopping by!

@@StudyingMachine-yg4th The quote "in mathematics you don't understand things, you just get used to them" is well-known, but the story around it wasn't accurate. "Prisoner's Dilemma" doesn't mention this quote at all, but it is first time mentioned in a footnote in the book "The Dancing Wu Li Masters" by Gary Zukav: "Dr Felix Smith, Head of Molecular Physics Stanford Research Institute, once related to me the true story of a physicist Inend who worked at Los Alamos after World War II. Seeking help on a difficult problem he went to the great Hungarian mathematician John von Neumann who was at Los Alamos as a consultant."... etc.

@@abeljacobi4221 Thank you for the insightful comment and for setting the record straight! I must confess, I actually wrote the book by Gary Zukav-kidding, of course! I’ve always admired both Zukav and Fritjof Capra for their groundbreaking contributions that forever changed the way we look at physics. Your intellectual punch has definitely added value to my channel, and I truly appreciate your input. Keep the great comments coming!

I still find it incredibly helpful in my own study and planning processes. It's amazing how some techniques stand the test of time because they work so well!

"To use mathematics effectively in applications, you need not just knowledge but *skill* . Skill can only be obtained through practice.", Mary Boas in "To The Student" of her "Mathematical Methods in the Physical Sciences". This is true for both applied (computational-oriented) and pure (theorem-proof oriented) courses.

Hi, Douglas! Thank you so much for your insightful comment! You're absolutely right that skill in mathematics, whether applied or pure, comes from practice and not just knowledge. Mary Boas' emphasis on this in "Mathematical Methods in the Physical Sciences" is a valuable reminder for anyone learning mathematics. I appreciate the recommendation and will definitely check out the book. Your input adds great value to the discussion, and I look forward to incorporating more of these insights in my future videos. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts!

@@StudyingMachine-yg4th When I tutored Physics and Math, I would always ask a new client if they play a musical instrument or a sport. In the beginning, one sounds horrible, is clumsy, etc. but after some practice, one starts to "get it". Physics and Math are the same. I would tell them that learning Physics & Math is the same process; that turned down their stress level.

@@douglasstrother6584 Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Your approach is truly insightful and inspiring. Drawing parallels between learning Physics and Math to practicing a musical instrument or sport is such a wonderful way to help students understand the process and reduce their stress. It’s fascinating how you’ve combined these different disciplines to create a relatable and effective teaching strategy. Your students are lucky to have a tutor who not only understands the material but also knows how to make it accessible and enjoyable. Keep up the amazing work!

"The brilliant mathematician John von /Newman/. John von /Noyman/, a mathematician..." The time that it's mispronounced, it is also misspelled in the captions. Telltale sign of text-to-speech.

@TwentyNineJP
@TwentyNineJP 2 ай бұрын
@@StudyingMachine-yg4th True, but misspelling and mispronunciation at the same time is an unlikely coincidence. It's a huge improvement over the old Microsoft Sam voiceovers, so I don't mind the idea of TTS videos per se. There's just still the feeling of being misled; that may change over time as this becomes more common, but some kind of disclosure might help to reduce that feeling. I think that TTS has the potential to help a lot of people break into growing their channels, especially people who might have a disadvantage due to (for example) prejudice due to a speech impediment or a non-native accent. But no matter the situation, people will eventually feel like they're being tricked if there isn't a disclosure and they figure it out themselves.
