Nice honest video without that BS that comes with others. I drive occasionally just to keep current but dont do it full time and those tippers do scare me. Class 2 be ok but class 1 would probably have my arse twitching like a rabbits nose lol

They just don't think or look! Thing is as a truck driver, it's every day you have to take some sort of major avoiding action to avoid a serious accident. Stay safe out there Billy.
@davidschwartz9636 Жыл бұрын
Hi Billy. Do most bulk tippers have the camera on the body so you can see what's happening with the load? For example, when you were loading the coal from the conveyor belt, so you knew when it was time to move the truck forward. Again, thanks for taking the time to make this video.
@billybarton3258 Жыл бұрын
No that's my camera for the video there's 2 ways of doing it 1 the shovel driver will tell you when to move forward or you have scales in the cab you would just put about 7T in then move forward a bit you will be aiming for about 4 heaps of 7t and you won't be far away

Enjoying and learning about the job from the videos. - Just thinking if I get the job on the bulk tippers on Tuesday (Tu.11.04.2023 - Been asked to go in and see them for a chat), I could well end up calling at some of these places. I saw you role your sheet off, then secure the rope you use to pull the sheet over the body. What have you done to stop the sheet unrolling as you're going along? I see what you mean about it being a bit tight in there. Not somewhere you would want to go to for the first time when it's dark! - Respect your driving skills there Billy, you made it look easy.

@@billybarton3258 Hi Billy. I have been driving Class 1 for a good few years now. However I I get / take this job, it will be my first time tramping. I have, a long time ago, done a handful of loads of coal in a bulk tipper. - Coal is nice and easy and free flowing!
@davidschwartz9636 Жыл бұрын
@@billybarton3258 I'm not new to class 1, but if I get offered the job on Tue, this will be the first time I've done tramping work, also will be the first time I've ever done any serious bulk tipping work. ( Done a couple of loads of coal to help out a few years ago). Hence your videos are all good sound information. Many thanks and much respect to you, David
@davidschwartz9636 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I did coal in bulk tippers many years ago. I've been out of work for a few weeks now, and the good news is I've been invited along to come and see them for a chat at a company that runs bulk tippers. So your videos re the loading and tipping procedures are invaluable. Once again many thanks, David.

Happened to me last week in Wales I was in a road train made a right mess of my truck. 15 years in the road never had a problem it’s kinda put me off driving now. I do also use a hgv garmin:(. I did manage to get it out but it was so stressful trying to get a 18.5m truck that bends in the middle. The job didn’t help with being in a 7.5t weight limit 🤦♂️

back when i was a new driver, i got a garmin, and was driving to uni for the 1st time, instead of an hour drive, this dam garmin keep increasing the fkg distance to a total drive time of 3-4 fkg hours. I had to finally stop because that garbage satnav took me to this rural steep slope that wasn't even a road and it was telling me to go up. It was literally like 45 degrees angle. there was no fkg way it was possible. i smashed and binned that 200£ of garbage on the same day. Although gps from google is not that great, it is still sufficient to take me where i needed to go to this day!

Not worth smashing your truck up just to make a delivery or pickup I would refuse to go. Unless you got a ridgid lorry or a smaller trailer it's not worth it. A route plan off your customer is always helpful but sometimes you just have to go for it.

It's for this very reason that I quit my job as a Curtain-Sider & Moffett driver and went into container work. The Moffett not only adds 8 feet onto your back swing, it also increases the chance of getting hung up in country lanes. It's a lot easier manoeuvring a box and drag in a tight road than an artic.

2 things: 1. Firstly I’d refuse to go there to begin with especially if other drivers have had the same issues!! 2. If they forced me to go there (like threaten you with dismissal) then I would say fine but as soon as I get stuck your paying for a call out for a wrecker!! No way would have I got the farmer to pull me up even if he had offered! I’d just make them learn the hard way via burning holes in their pockets! And if they moan about the cost of getting wreckers out every time you go there then they would stop sending you there!!
