The Yamaha is a little brighter. The Martin is a little warmer. Just what I'd expect.

I A LOVE Yamaha I HAVE A LL16D SOUND BETTER THEN SOME MORE EXPENSIVE AMERICAN MADE BUT YOU LOVE THE LABEL....AND LL16 BASS ARE AMAZING....YOU KNOW GIBSON? WHEN YOU RECORD ONE OF THESE GUITARS ENGINEER CUT THE BASS IN GENERAL YAMAHA IS EQUILIBRATE... SO IN GENERAL YAMAHA IS underrated.... About china made....some acoustic fron china are Amazing ....but evrything come from America....also if It Is merd .....don't look labels .,..china craft man work Is 90% made by hand and good....so why mast a Yamaha made in china not good as a japanese?

My two cents. Martin has to be picked. It’s percussive. If you try to get sustain out of it- it’s gonna muddy. For a guitar that costs as much as that, I feel like that’s pretty lame.

Hd28 is a great guitar, but that compressed and yet silky tone is all in your fingers.. bravo!!

914 has tighter sound with more punchy bass and well as high frequency treble. D-28 sounds warmer and smoother.

I just got mine and in a sea of Martins, Guilds, Taylors, etc…. This is the best sounding acoustic guitar I own. The acoustic guitar manufacturers need to stop putting gloss on all of their guitars. Satin finishes are primo…So much more resonance and woody tone you can’t get with gloss finish… I called her James after JT and his Gibson J50….

I've tried out both the D-28 and the D-28. It used to be the D-28 had the deeper bass and clearer treble than the D-18. It doesn't seem to be the case today. Lately the D-18 seems to come out the winner every time I've compared them.
