Just ask Shiffrin what she thinks. Surly her opinion is "go ahead wait to weight the out side ski...I can still win more races than any one else with my good old fashioned early weight transfer." Steve Maher invented "The White Pass Turn" but he laughs and call it a mistake that became a technique because he still won the race in spite of making a glaring error.

This was really educational. I didn’t even realize that people ski differently in different terrain. I was trying to “carve” in cruddy snow, and constantly catching an edge. Thanks for this.

You are welcome. Nice to have been able to bring you some new information. I often get confronted with the belief that carving is the only way to ski and not only is that not true, most of those people also cannot carve even if they think they can. Cheers, Tom

Superman and variations-should we create a hip dump and counterrotation of the hips at the turn initiation? Do you consider that a proper race technique? Or even an adequate skiing technique? Sorry, but I strongly disagree. Chris is noticeably misaligned with his hips when doing this drill. There are many other questionable statements and drills, but this just surprised me. Maybe I don't understand, I apologise for my negative feedback. It just doesn't look right to me.
@Triggerboy6213 күн бұрын
Feedback much appreciated. We have had many comments in the commentary section of videos, even from wc-racers, and it is important to let everyone have a say. Many times the regular guy out on the mountain can come up with the most valuable information. Regarding the superman drill.... Im not very fond of this drill but I am fond of the reversed superman drill. Also the variation where you pass a ski pole from outside hand to new outside hand at transition. Drills are usually not aimed at having you ski a certain way, its more a way of trying to enhance good movements or in most cases rid bad habits. If a skier fails to angulate at the hip and counter, bring the hips into the turn, then the superman drill helps with that. But we do not want a hip dump, therefore we need to build other movements into the skiers movement pattern. The reverse superman drill I learned from Tina Mazes coach. Basically the superman drill is a SL type drill while the reversed super man drill is a GS drill. Note that this video is several years old. Check out newer videos on his skiing and please give some feedback as to his skiing at the moment. Here: kzbin.infoBm-BzjSWxDI Cheers, Tom

Wow! There's hardly any skid that I could see.. I guess that's probably ok if everything is under control, but when speed control becomes more important it might give rise to problems, also I would think that the second run after some ruts have formed would be even more unforgiving? Definitely for the pros!! How did it work in competition?

We tuned two identical 2024 pairs to 86 and left a brand new 2023 pair at 87. When testing these against each other on the same track we were blown away with the 86 performance. They reacted so much faster and and made the skis so much more quick into the turn and overall responsive and lively with superior edge hold. We have a video of it and the 87 pair simply did not bend into the turn at the same rate, leaving Chris standing on his inside ski and skidding a lot more. Since the skis are not 100% identical it is impossible to give an absolute verdict but we had tested the skis against each other earlier at 87 deg and there was no difference then. You are right, drifting the skis into the turn is more difficult. However, that is Chris especially good at, drifting the skis at the top of the turn. So much in fact that he has been slammed badly for it by other coaches. We do not mind as our approach is a bit more skidding at the top of the turn at this stage and then minimizing it over time instead of crashing out in every race as many others do that try to carve edge locked every turn just to be as fast as possible. I will make a follow up video even if the last races were not on water injected snow as we had taught. And planned for. Tom

@@Triggerboy62 thanks for the reply.. interesting stuff. At that level it will make a big difference, but everyone wants to feel comfortable with their skis. Chris seems to be getting better all the time in terms of technique, I guess he can adapt to new setups and if it improves performance, then its worth some temporary discomfort? Kiitos

Wake up, thats just sad compared to Alps or even bulgaria. Lastenmäki.
@Triggerboy6225 күн бұрын
I dont know if that is that "sad", but yes, nothing compared to the Alps or even Bulgaria. However, cold weather and state of the art snow making and storing technology together with great logistics and accommodation possibilities serves for a great ski holiday experience. The slopes are not that long and with not a lot of vertical but WC and Euro Cup SL and GS events are held and much appreciated by many WC teams and athletes. Thanks anyway for watching and leaving a comment. Tom

Just got back from an April trip to Deer Valley, UT. No new snow was in the forecast so I brought my Head e-Race Pro skis that make carving so infinitely easier than those huge 80-100mm skis most everyone else on the mountain was using. Would love a video showing how much narrower width skis can help in the process (and how about a music video, too?). Thanks, Tom!
@Triggerboy6212 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching and thank you for sharing. I actually did a video years ago where I compared a wider all mountain ski with rocker to my usual FIS SL skis. Here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHLEfZWKiMiKa6s My experience was that I had absolutely no gain from the wider ski in these kind of conditions. So if I ski on groomers 90% of the time and I get away in conditions like this with my regular slalom skis then I dont need wider skis. On the other hand if I never ski on a groomer but in off piste conditions and in powder then a wider ski makes sense. But a new video with similar testing would be very interesting for the majority of skiers here on my channel as most still think they need the wider skis as skiing on groomers is done as well with wider skis. NOT. We have tested up and to because ski reps keep telling us how good the wider skis are but the truth needs to get out there. On the other hand, if I come to an other conclusion I will of course change my mind. Cheers, T

this is super helpful thank you I'm a beginner with low confidence in my balance and this is the natural way I've skiied so far. yesterday I went down some blue hills and was in a similar posture the entire time despite going very slowly using up the entire run lol. that was a workout 🥵 the only issue I havel is that other than my muscles, my knees are sore, especially the MCLs. I think that's related to my duck feet though, any suggestions on that? (and before anyone says it, no I don't wanna snowboard)

So basically you are teaching people to aim for the top part of the bump and turn. I teach something similar but, in my opinion, even easier. I teach people who are intimidated by the bumps to side slipping toward the top of each bump and to continue side slipping down that same bump. I like what you teach here is a next step from what I teach. Turn on the top of the bump when you are ready for a turn instead of always side slipping it.
@Triggerboy62Ай бұрын
Yes, exactly. Never taught about it like that but in my opinion you really cannot side slip up the hill side of a bump can you? But correct, just turn at the top and side slip every other bump left and right. Cheers, T

@ridercanada1Ай бұрын
Or did the quality of the skiers deteriorate? 😂. Was Chris in this race?
@Triggerboy62Ай бұрын
hahaaa.... no excuses.... thanks for asking about Chris. Yes, the course deteriorated badly. The slope, Levi Black, home of the WC, was not water injected. And it was not wet enough to use chemicals. Cannot be seen in this video footage, but the whole flat top part was like a x-country skiing track. Two deep tracks in the snow. So the less skilled and fit guys at the end of the lineup were in deep trouble. Chris included. Bib 81. Watch and weep..... I told Chris to cross the finishing line at all costs as there would be so many DNF. Turned out he finished 20th :) The Swedes taking part said they will never be back. It was that bad. Did you guys watch the Top 13 GS Crashes? The GS on Sunday was equally bad. Today as well. Chris was 32nd. He was 31st after the first run and missed the reversed 30 by one place. Rats. Welcome to the magical world of SkiRacing :) Cheers, T

Please educate me. Why are the skies not releasing in most of the falls?
@Triggerboy62Ай бұрын
Great question. Chris is using 18-20 DIN and finally we have been rid of binding pre-release. Especially when you start late in the lineup and the course is worn and bumpy. Same goes for the rest of the racers. For a racing ski binding to release there must be extreme forces. The Marker World Cup bindings go up to 30 DIN. Cheers, T

Leg steering requires “pressure management”. The point of the pivot slip drill is the blending and management of edging, rotary and pressure in skiing.
@Triggerboy62Ай бұрын
How is pressure applied in "!independent leg steering" turns?
@pas212Ай бұрын
@@Triggerboy62 excuse my poor grammar, I’m not contending that “pressure management” is the main focus of leg steering, only that a skier must manage all three skills to varying degrees at all times.
