Love the video! Adam here. Thanks for reaching out with your request for the rendering! I deal with the same “setbacks” all the time. In fact, Box Rocket Designs began with a few renderings for myself to keep me motivated on my own projects. 8 years and literally hundreds of renderings later the requests just keep coming. I love seeing the projects that others are working on so it’s been awesome. Keep up the good work and I look forward to see your completed bug! Cheers!

Seriously, every time I look at the rendering, I smile, and I look forward to working on the bug. Thanks again! Folks if you want something similar, definitely contact @BoxRocketFab, Adam will hook you up.

@robertosantinni9656 Yeah, several of them! But I'll be honest, the 80/800s are my favorite. They have that old school vibe. I literally found a ton of my old build pictures and may start uploading my old "D&C Extreme" builds from back in the 2000-2010s. I think my last one was 2012-ish. But that pre-dates KZbin and computer storage big enough to handle high-resolution clips...so they'll all be slide shows

I think it’s important to share our experiences, good or bad. That’s how we learn and as I always say, we learn better together. Glad you’re still pushing through on your build.
@thebinderbuilder24 күн бұрын
@VWJawbreaker Thanks Gary. Yeah, we're definitely blessed. And definitely check out the dunes if you get a chance. They are AWESOME... except for the obvious part 😅 But really, definitely look at visiting some dunes, I'm shocked how many states have dunes in them. And as long as you have a guide, it truly is a blast, like your own personal roller-coaster. So far I've been riding in Utah (Moab and Sand Hollow), Idaho and Tennessee. Each time was a great time. I highly recommend it.
@ChasePalsson24 күн бұрын
I'm in Salt Lake area and frequent St Anthony a lot! Let me know next time you're out this way, would love to go to Idaho or any of the dunes here in Utah as well! The only other big piece of advice especially in the dunes is NEVER go out alone. A lesson you would have highlighted had you or your kids crashed on their own. Crashes, breakdowns, getting stuck, etc are all very difficult to address when you're by yourself and finding a lost person in the dunes is not easy unless you have eyes in the air
@thebinderbuilder24 күн бұрын
@ChasePalsson You got it! I'm definitely hitting you up next time I head out there! Still looking forward to being back on the sand!
@thebinderbuilder23 күн бұрын
Yeah, my kids said that they had been on the dunes before, just not in vehicles. I guess the college kids go out there for bonfires and such. We did run across some tracks from someone walking across the dunes. Personally I don't think I could handle that, just hiking down and back to the second UTV was exhausting. But then again, sand is always hard to walk/hike in. So do you dune? You said you go to Saint Anthony a lot? What do you take with you? My daughter might start school in September, so we'll be out there again. I'd love to see if we could meet up and you show me around!
@ChasePalsson22 күн бұрын
@@thebinderbuilder I grew up in the dunes. My dad owned a Sand magazine back in the day and that was always his favorite place to go. Live down in SLC area now but always interested in a trip to St Anthony. I've got a CanAm X3, my dad has a subie powered sand rail running at about 500hp, then a few other quads and whatnot.

@thebinderbuilder24 күн бұрын
@garyjones2582 Thanks Gary! Yeah, funny thing, though, these things were pretty tough and capable from the get go. Just get a clean bug, put on a minimal lift, some wide rims with 31x10s and it'll be good for cruisin and regular trail riding. You don't need to go extreme like me!
@thebinderbuilder23 күн бұрын
I've thought about it a little more, and I will say that the only thing that I'd look out for, if buying another bug, is the wiring and electronics. The motors are pretty decent, the trans are okay. but much of the issues I've seen is wiring and spark/fuel delivery issues. Consider these things finish the Baja1000...tells me that they don't need much. So again, if I were in your shoes, and looking for a decent Baja for mild trail-riding and offroad adventures...or even organized trail runs at VW shows, I would concentrate on getting a solid bug, check and double-check the wiring, get the best ignition system you can for it ~ as well as the best off-road carburetor available, and then, with some 31" tires on 15x8-15x10 rims...run it!

Thanks for sharing. Its hard to share these types of lessons. I think your biggest mistake was being unfamiliar with the terrain. I made the same mistake at Pismo Dunes but on a dirt bike. I was used to Dumont Dunes. All dunes are different and never assume whats on the other side of one. Again, thanks for sharing and God Bless.

As long as the transmission doesn't blow up. The Envoy has a great engine with the 4200, but the transmission is left to be desired. It's why a lot of Envoy's and Trailblazers are in junk yard now-a-days.

@@thebinderbuilder The 4L60E is an inherently weak transmission, so do keep an eye on it. If it fails, get one from Gearstar. They took care of the failure points in the 4L60E. If it hard shifts to 2nd gear, that's when you know it's starting to fail.
