I'm writing a book here. . .First there is my story of why I got out of it 15 years ago. One of my original & real life friends got super popular and ditched all of us for mediocre Facebook fame (even ditching her own boyfriend (who made one of my cosplay weapons and became very mentally unwell after all this went down)) and then she got with some girl who was also "hot" in the community so they could make kink images to supply images to all the perverts she managed to surround herself with (there is way more to that with all the dangerous people she has surrounding her including stalkers literally following her to every event she goes to but I digress). I'm not against lesbianism but you could tell obviously that the move was made out of wanting all the fame to herself and not out of love. She also treated us all like we were nothing after that which was the nail in the coffin for me. Regardless, the whole situation made me disgusted and I left. Anyways, recently I came back to the cosplay/game/anime communities on Facebook a few months ago and meet someone that is cosplaying one of the characters I always wanted to cosplay in the past (Let's call her Eliza). We talk for three months (her being 18 and me 35 ( I already should have backed out when I realized that lol)). We get along ok until I start showing her images of a cosplay I'm working on and images of myself in it. That's when she started to get weird. She started comparing her nose to mine (and no I didn't even edit my images) and would say things like "I don't have a tall nose". She also would start constantly obsessing over people she saw while she was out and about saying things like "Wow I just saw this foreigner...they looked like a doll". She would say something like this about every 3 days and it was weird/annoying. I would constantly tell her "You are beautiful too...all you have to do is look in the mirror". She wouldn't really respond to that. She also would always hide her face in photos. She was a cute girl in her own right and I really didn't get why she was doing that. Must be some kind of body dysmorphia. and/or self-esteem issues. So, in the end things were too toxic on Facebook (there were popular cosplayers who were sexual predators (not naming names but there is a big one in the Final Fantasy Community), one that was trying to force me to cosplay as his "waifu" (who in that media is just 14 years old/underage!!!) and showing me his house he just bought. Creepy as hell I tell you. "I'm done" I said to myself. I decided to delete Facebook and some of my other social media. Well surprise surprise! What happens next!? Eliza comes in my email screaming and yelling at me saying I ditched her. I didn't. I literally left her my email!!! lol. Then she said, "Yeah run away like you run away from everything!" I was just like wow this kid is really full of something lol...after 3 months I guess she thinks she knows all about me...even more than I know myself!!! lololol. She ran off from my email saying she wouldn't respond to any of my emails anymore so don't bother trying. . .SO I HAD TO GO OUT OF MY WAY TO MAKE A NEW INSTAGRAM JUST TO APOLOGISE TO HER (even though I was not at fault for anything). I have every right to delete my social media at anytime! WTF? (That is why I leave people my email...deleting my social media is something I do often. I must have done it like 20 times by now. lol.) She accepted my apology and she apologized too but the damage is already done. She also for some reason deleted her instagram posts involving all of her cosplay images as if in some dramatic act of defiance. Or maybe she realised her nose will NEVER be like mine and said why even bother...no idea. So weird. lol So now she is back in my email because I told her I really can't do instagram at this point in time and said sorry to her again. I told her that if she wants to talk to me I will be in my email and that is that. She emailed me but she hasn't responded to me for 2 days now. lol. Makes me wonder what the hell she really wanted to get out of me in the first place??? Who the hell knows at this point. Anyways, I might jump back into facebook and social media eventually. But I SURE AS HELL AM GOING TO AVOID THE KIDS AFTER THIS. These new kids getting into the hobby have underdeveloped brains and are plain out nuts. Knowing what I know now I will fine tune my strategy and get back in the game. Because I don't cosplay for anyone else. I do it for myself and for the fun of it...because that is what it's supposed to be about. Having fun. Right? RIGHT?!?!?! lol

I use tea as for sugar+water combo, and my fluid container is a flexible one that shrinks every time i sip some tea And for wig maintenance i bring some hairspray

Alt of modern cosplayers vring the high school mean girl drama into tje community, and there a lot of bad actors FALSELY accusing people or starting witchunts. Or just clout chasing

and a lot of ppl i've known quit for various reasons because the drama is so bad.

This year, I started being more active in social media when it came to cosplay. Back when I entered my first con as a teenager, I was amazed by the type of ambience people created, I felt at "home". This year has been a little tough given certain realizations when it comes to cosplay, but it´s a social activity afterall, I am not that surprised, but thanks for bringing more light into this topic, it was relaxing listening to this video.

I was a cosplayer for almost a decade... i enjoyed it, only for it to lead me to depression, self harm and feeling lost in both confidence and self esteem, ane all because of the people I had chosen to hang out with misinterpreting my behaviour... judgmental, hypocritical... regardless of their age, gender, pronoun etc... If your gonna get into this hobby, just be careful on who you meet... more times than enough, cosplay leads to social media drama... and that nearly led me to doing away with myself never mind the work that went into it... You make local conventions a regular thing they lose that enjoyment compared to other events... It took another hobby though an isolated one to save me

To Be Honest , I don't have any problem with constructive criticism , like from what Can I improve. wigs and outfit , way of potraying.. but those irrelevant comments like do a plastic sergery , commit s...ide . Instead of helping each other I saw they're kind of biased I saw a lot of people doing inappropriate cosplays they got praised but only I got criticized and racist comments also.. where I Improved With time still got criticized. I mean Instead of having fun and maintain a healthy community It became competetive , fake, biased and toxic..

Was friends with a pro cosplayer who edited herself a whole new body. She told me editing herself to be more attractive was making her feel disgusted with her real body. She couldn't even stand looking in the mirror anymore.

A rant but clearly a very honest and heartfelt one, on a topic that touchs you. The fakeness of today's world is scary indeed.. and the worst is that sometimes it's so hard to tell if the ones suffering the worst are us for having our self confidence /mind's messed with, or the "fakes" themselves for feeling the need to be so untrue about everything.. hoping you feel better soon!

Padrões de beleza e estética que muitas vezes não são possíveis sem edição ou sorte na lotaria genética acabam por fazer muita gente duvidar o seu valor e muitas vezes ate destruir a auto estima das pessoas. Edição é bom como ferramenta criativa mas quando tudo o que vês é pessoas com corpos manipulados e muitas vezes ate os fatos não estão completos mas são retocados e adicionados detalhes em edição ai já é só mau. Cada pessoa tem o direito de representar-se online como quiser e se sentir mais confortável mas concordo contigo que devia haver avisos.

I have learned a valuable lesson about the cosplay community the hard way last year: some people are not what they seem to be and any "friend" group that has you walking around egg shells or silent landmines, is offended easily (in other words, snowflakes) is a red flag, especially the ones who leave you in the dark constantly and are terrible at communicating. And also, watch what you say online bc it can be interpreted in so many ways that if one person in a cosplay community pretty much yells "Wolf! wolf!" You're done. as stupid as it sounds. and at that point, expect a swift kick from their little farmhouse community and like you said, people will always just side with one person and call it a day. Now, I have found a much better group of friends and also met some online friends of mine i met since 2019 before the pandemic at a con in another state and that was FUN. So, to re-iterate, watch people very carefully in a community, and for the love of god, watch what you say online.

Without a doubt, something that does trouble my mind at times, that's the main reason i try to get cosplays that i can use for many characters and that's the reason i'm always finding ways of doing canon stuff with my clothes without getting the better of me at getting new cosplays, cause it is expensive. as someone with greasy areas in my face, i would also add blotting paper to the makeup list essencials! that + setting spray can actually make wonders to keep everything locked in place and looking fresh <3

The start had me on with YES LET'S GO, DRAMA-- then it's a regular video about One Piece. I LOVED IT XD but really, nice way to present an anime. You kind of sold me it. GG

I only got into One Piece this year and I'm eating it up. There's a lot of great things about this anime, but you're dead right when you say the characters are the best part. There are so many great one liners from them that live rent free in my head, from Zoro's "Nothing happened", to Robin's "I want to live" or Franky's "it's never a crime just to exist". I'd love a video on Sanji next, he was my least favorite character at first, but after the Whole Cake Island Arc he's 100% my favorite!
