There were petroglyphs at Bald Friar on the Susquehanna River 2 miles south of the Pa/MD line. They managed to dynamite a good bit of them in order to save them to see and study, because they were located on rocks in the middle of the river and that area has been under 100 feet of water since 1929.

So happy to see this! I lived right across the street and attended in 1960 before moving to western NY. Last time I saw this wonderful building, sadly it was empty and had fallen into disrepair. Even though I was there for a short time, I have always been drawn to North Scranton junior High School! Would love walk through those doors once again!

My late maternal grandfather Edward V. Edwards installed the radio gear on the Pennsylvania when it was overhauled and modernized at Philadelphia Navy Yard 1929-1931. A self-taught electronics expert, he had several patents and stayed with the government until retirement as a GS-14.

This is poignant, the last time Dizzy Dean ever threw his great fastball. During the game, Earl Averill of the Indians broke his toe with a line drive off of his foot. Dizzy came back too soon from it and favored it, permanently injuring his arm and cutting his career short.

Back in 1980 I participated in a prehistoric archaeological dig at the future site of the Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna River in Maryland. It was so cool! I was in highschool. We found all sorts of neat things from over 1,000 years ago.

Unlimited speed limit. Most cars only had 3 speed manual transmissions and 2 speed automatics, geared fine for around town and back roads. At 60 mph your engine would have been overrevving....

I’m guessing this road was still safer than others back then due to wider pavement. , at least a small grass median, and full grade separation I assume. At least safer than 2-lane undivided rural backroads at 60-70 mph back then.

They were standard 12 ft lanes separated by a 10 foot median, except in the tunnels, no divider and 11 1/2 ft lanes
