Archeological testing in the uplands is vastly different than deep soil testing along river banks and terraces. Stratified soil layers on higher ground is fairly straight forward and much more uniform than sediment layers along rivers and creeks. This requires more deep sediment testing

How dumb can you get to not forsee that funneling 2 lanes of traffic into one lane to go through the tunnel was going to be a problem?

A credible state police officer that was on the site told me that there was a second crater miles before the crash site but he wouldn't tell me where it was. If anybody could share that information it would be greatly appreciated.

This is good old days when government worked for the good of the people
@EdwardSnowYen9 күн бұрын
Nah this was typical government. Nobody could tell that this 03:14 wasn't going to work long term? Two lanes of traffic into one. After the war there were 5 mile backups at the tunnels thus it became obsolete within 25 years.

Thanks for posting this. I have heard about the PA Turnpike in the latest 40's early 50's when my Father started driving trucks and it looks like a very different word than today. How the world has changed.

So happy to see this! I lived right across the street and attended in 1960 before moving to western NY. Last time I saw this wonderful building, sadly it was empty and had fallen into disrepair. Even though I was there for a short time, I have always been drawn to North Scranton junior High School! Would love walk through those doors once again!

My late maternal grandfather Edward V. Edwards installed the radio gear on the Pennsylvania when it was overhauled and modernized at Philadelphia Navy Yard 1929-1931. A self-taught electronics expert, he had several patents and stayed with the government until retirement as a GS-14.

This is poignant, the last time Dizzy Dean ever threw his great fastball. During the game, Earl Averill of the Indians broke his toe with a line drive off of his foot. Dizzy came back too soon from it and favored it, permanently injuring his arm and cutting his career short.
