For me this song was the anthem I played while finding my heart and relationship mental health. While healing from a major breakup we meet wonderful people that god wraps in a bow, but until we are ready for love again I can't emotionally crawl inside of you. The other day a friend said every relationship is getting us closer to love and our beloved.

The gist of it is that he got his heart broken and now he's in shambles. He gives and gives and can't convince himself that it's pointless. He's afraid to love again so he gets the ring tattoo to remind him of what happens.

Yes, it does, but I think he's trying to say that he's afraid of love because a woman he married (or was going to marry) broke his heart, so he got this tattoo to remind him not to fall in love before he lives his life (because love will ruin him).
