I have a house near the ocean that has these curtains. Instead of zippers they have grommets to hold then in place when down. The curtains were installed by the previous owner and I would saw they are about 15 years od. There are several problems that I have observed with them that you need to be aware of. 1. They shrink with time. This makes closing them difficult. 2. They yellow and can become stiff over time 3. With wind and rain they get dirty and are difficult to clean. 4 The ropes that pull them up eventually become worn and need to be replaced. This is not easy. 5. The pulleys are typically aluminum and they corrode and also need to be replaced. Again not easy. The curtains are effective when you are closing up the house in the winter. They are not overly practical to pull up and down in during the day, especially if you have a large porch.

I am also curious about wind tolerance. Our canyon winds have gusts up to 100 mph, and has been known to blow constantly for days on end! Would a 12"+ strip of screen material sewn between the clear and the green portions of the curtain (or at the top of the curtain?) give the wind a way of dissipating without ripping the curtain?

The clear doesn't block the sun. You could use tint on the windows or sun shades. The 90% would cut down the heat from the sun while still giving you the ability to see thru the material from the inside looking out. You can see more about that product on our website. do these block the HEAT from the sun? if so, can you make ordinary roller blinds from this material? i have a sliding glass door [72w x 95h] that looks out onto the ocean, and i dont want to block the view, but the heat from the sun is unbearable. i live on a sunny, caribbean island. What would you suggest i use? is there a clear-ish film that i can just apply to the windows?

@ Quigley, I can tell you that typically speaking the enclosure will hold 10 to 15 degrees of warmth from the retention of radiant heat your house give off. (assuming the house is one or more sides of the patio and you are not in -20 degree temperatures) Once our enclosure is in place you will need to add one or two home depot style propane heaters. Your geographic location and more info on your patio would give me the ability to provide you with more accurate answers. Thanks, Tom
