Sauron and Saruman are only confusing for people who misspronounce the names.
@TroubleToby304013 сағат бұрын
No offense intended, but this assumes that "most people" are pronouncing the names at all. The vast majority of people aren't ever pronouncing the names at all. Most people just watched the films and were done with it after that. And the way they're pronounced in the films has caused COUNTLESS people to confuse them, as evidenced by this and many other comedy skits alluding to the well-known phenomenon.

Any series arising from a backdoor pilot, shouldn't count as spinoff. No regular characters were spun off into another show.

Blame Fred Silverman- ABC's programmig whiz- for "greenlighting" the series. He wanted another family-oriented variety show like "DONNY & MARIE" (and the Kroffts produced that one, too)- and he thought by bringing back the Brady family in a variety format, he could also cross-promote other ABC "stars" by featuring them as guests. Only one thing- he scheduled "THE BRADY BUNCH HOUR" (once a month) opposite "60 MINUTES" and "THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY". That's why it lasted seven episodes [the last two were "burned off" in "THE CAPTAIN & TENNILLE"'s time slot on Mondays].
@Jray1818182 күн бұрын
Two things you missed. The cast of the movie appeared in one episode of the show “Wings” as their Brady characters and Jennifer Elise Cox reprised of role as Jan Brady in an episode of Moesha.

I read an anthology of some of the original stories that were adapted into Twilight Episodes. In “It’s a Good life.” By Jerome Bixby, the child is playing with a little girl that doesn’t put up with his crap. He finally scares her by turning into a giant beetle. Which she stomps on and kills…

I really need to read the Bixby story.

The Brady Bunch Hour was ranked fourth in worst tv shows of all time. Imagine what is ranked third, second and, my gawd, first?
@atomicabe2 күн бұрын
We're using a TV Guide list from 2002. At the time these were ranked as the worst TV shows. I don't necessarily agree, but here's how they listed them: 5. Hogan's Heroes 4. Brady Variety Hours 3. XFL 2. My Mother the Car 1. The Jerry Springer Show
@Shawn-e6w2 күн бұрын
@atomicabe My Mother the Car. I saw an episode of that show a long time ago on one of the retro channels and I couldn't believe that I watched the whole episode (literally, from opening credits to the closing credits), it was THAT bad of a show. As for Jerry Springer, I did watch it the first few years (when I was in my 20s) but I grew up lol. My Mother the Car, to me (out of the list posted), is #1. Hogan's Heroes was another stupid show but always loved the theme song

Miracle Mile was excellent. “The Man from Earth” was written and produced by Matthiessen. Other movies are “I caught the devil” “No one will save you” “The Gathering” “The Vast of Night”

My heart sank whenever one of these episodes appeared on tv (i was a kid at the time). I was so afraid dear JB Fletcher would quit appearing on the show and she'd be replaced by one of these guys. I viewed each one of these new main characters as a personal enemy. 😅 Revisiting the series now, i find these episodes quite well written. Still JB is the heart of the show. Without her, the episodes seem bland.
@atomicabe4 күн бұрын
Agreed, the bookends have their charm, but there's no substitute for JB Fletcher.

Ohhh the spinoff makes so much sense. I was wondering what happened to Jess because after he went to California, he disappeared for a long time. So much so, that I had kind of forgotten about his role until "A year in the Life." Dealing with the Spinoff drama would have meant possible negotiations etc. I hope we can one day get a spinoff to see the backstory of some of the characters particularly Emily and Richard and maybe Ms Patti and Babbette because thier love for show business seems so interestign!

I really liked this, and watched the Flintstones as a kid. However, you didn't really explain WHY the spin-offs failed! (other than you thought that they overplayed the "Monsters" theme).
@atomicabe2 күн бұрын
There's not a ton of jounalism or resources to rely on to tell the tale of backdoor pilots. We did our best to cobble together what little information has been published, alongside some close readings of tropes in Hanna-Barbera and larger trends in media at the time. We don't have conclusive, definitive evidence about the "why" but the video chronicles how Hanna-Barbera persisted with these characters and kept re-tooling them. Maybe they just gave up and moved onto other ideas.

Most shows don't have successful spinoffs. Friends? Seinfeld? 24? Nope. The question is not why spinoffs fail, but why they succeed.
